Dell Precision 5680 Workstation with up to RTX 5000 Ada GPU

Until now, the Dell Precision 5000 series had its foundations in the Dell XPS 15 and Dell XPS 17 laptops. However, this year marks a significant shift as the Precision 5000 series stands independently. The all-new Dell Precision 5680 can be seen as a refined version of the Dell XPS 16, now equipped with enhanced features.

Dell Precision 5680

While the Precision 5500 and Precision 5700 shared a design and ISV-certified GPUs, targeting the workstation market, the Precision 5000 series, aside from a few nuances such as varying GPUs, additional CPU options, and the availability of optional ECC RAM, was essentially on par with the XPS laptops of equivalent size.

Yet, the Dell Precision 5680 deviates from some XPS principles for the very first time within the Precision 5000 series. A notable example is the reintroduction of an HDMI port, a feature Dell had omitted from the XPS lineup years ago. Nonetheless, the Precision 5680 retains some design elements characteristic of the XPS series, including the striking fusion of black interiors with silver exteriors. A unique hallmark of the Precision 5680 is its incorporation of Dell’s maiden mobile workstation featuring a haptic trackpad.

Under its hood, the Precision 5680 draws power from Intel’s Raptor Lake-H processors and deploys Nvidia’s Ada series of ISV-certified GPUs. This setup allows the Precision 5480 to accommodate the RTX 3000 Ada at its pinnacle, while the Precision 5680 steps up with the RTX 5000 Ada as its flagship graphics option. With two SO-DIMM slots, the laptop accommodates up to 64 GB DDR5-6000 RAM. Remarkably, Dell is stepping away from its in-house CAMM standard for this offering.

Battery-wise, the Dell Precision 5680 provides a choice between a 66 Wh and a 99.5 Wh option. Display options include WUXGA LCDs (1920 x 1200) or an optional 4K UHD OLED (3840 x 2400) panel.
