Last month, the electronics powerhouse, Samsung, unveiled the Smart Monitor M8 2024. It is currently available at a discounted price on Amazon. The Samsung M80D, also known as LS32DM801UNXZA, features a 32-inch VA panel offering 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels). It supports a 60 Hz refresh rate, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and HDR10+.
The datasheet lists a typical brightness of 400 cd/m², a 4ms response time, and a power consumption of 31 watts. Tizen, the onboard operating system, allows for using the Samsung UHD smart monitor without external devices. Users can access apps like Microsoft 365 or the Samsung Gaming Hub directly on the monitor. Voice control via Bixby or Alexa is also possible – even remotely thanks to the integrated microphone.
The SoC is the NQ8 AI Gen 3, known from Samsung’s 8K TVs, which offers AI-supported functions such as 4K upscaling or Active Voice Amplifier Pro. The latter filters out background noise from voice or video chats.
The Samsung Smart Monitor M80D supports video chats with its included SlimFit webcam and two 10-watt speakers. The desktop solution Samsung DeX is expected to be added in the third quarter of 2024 and will allow apps from compatible Samsung mobile devices to be displayed on the screen. On the connection side, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI, USB-C (65 watts PD), Wi-Fi 5, and a USB 2.0 hub are available.
Auto Source Switch+ automatically switches the signal input when you connect multiple devices. On the other hand, the “Multi Control” feature enables you to operate the Smart Monitor, Galaxy Tab, and Galaxy smartphone using the same mouse and keyboard, as long as you log into the devices with the same Samsung user account and connect to the same Wi-Fi network.
