Laowa 14mm f4 Zero-D DSLR: Compact wide-angle Lens without Distortion

The Venus Optics Laowa 14mm f4 Zero-D DSLR is currently the smallest and lightest wide-angle lens with a 114° field of view for SLR cameras with full-frame sensors. It is only about 7.5cm (Nikon 7.3cm) long and weighs just 320g (Nikon 360g). This makes it a popular companion for the full-frame cameras from Canon and Nikon and as an “always-with-you lens” suitable for landscape, architecture, and astrophotography.

Laowa 14mm f4 Zero-D for Nikon F / Canon EF

Although it is so small and light, no compromises have been made in terms of function, image quality, and construction, according to Laowa. In the solid metal housing, 13 lenses (2x ED, 2x ASPH.) In 8 groups ensure high sharpness, lowest chromatic aberration, and reduce distortion to an absolute minimum.

The extremely short close-up limit of 14.5 cm allows creative wide-angle shots with sharpness right up to the close range. This means that smaller objects can also be brought into focus with a mini-macro effect. Thanks to the five aperture blades, there is a nice 10-beam reflex when taking pictures against the sun or a point light source.

In contrast to many other wide-angle lenses with large spherical front lenses, this 14mm lens has a smaller front lens and a 67mm filter thread for screw-in filters. In the Laowa 14mm f4 Zero-D DSLR with Canon EF mount, an aperture motor ensures automatic aperture transmission. This means that you can focus with the aperture open, which is a great advantage for macro shots.

The aperture setting for the Nikon F, on the other hand, is done manually. Thanks to aperture coupling, the aperture value set on the aperture ring is transmitted mechanically with the aid of the driver. In addition, the EXIF data is transferred to the camera housing on both models. Focusing is done manually.
