With the HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f2.8 ED AW, Ricoh has introduced a new Macro lens for its SLR cameras with sensors in full-frame 35mm and APS-C format from the Pentax brand. Thanks to the improved optical design, the tele macro promises a further increase in imaging quality and has also been redesigned on the outside.
The Macro 100mm f2.8 was already one of the top lenses for macro photography. Since then, it has been adapted to the latest technology over several model generations and is now being presented as the new HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f2.8 ED AW, a new version based on the latest optical design features.
It can be used on Pentax 35mm full-frame and APS-C cameras. This macro lens features a new optical design developed using the latest technologies. It optimizes the image resolution and contrast even with an open aperture and delivers clear high-quality images. It is also the first Pentax macro lens with dustproof, weatherproof AW (All Weather) construction.
Compared to the previous model, the optical properties have been improved. It now has exceptional imaging performance thanks to the latest optical design technologies.
In addition to being built with the innovative FREE (Fixed Rear Element Extension) focusing system, this is mainly achieved with an optical element made of ED glass (Extra-low Dispersion) and two optical elements made of glass with anomalous dispersion, which compensates for various aberrations while minimizing the formation of unwanted purple fringes.
The new HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f2.8 ED AW now uses the original multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating, which reduces the average reflection in the visible spectrum to less than 50 percent compared to conventional models.
Together, these technologies minimize flare and ghosting across the entire range of focus – from close-up to infinity – delivering clear, high-quality images and finely detailed close-up shots. The lens also offers a shooting distance of 13 centimeters (with a magnification of 1:1) to capture difficult subjects such as e.g. B. to facilitate insects.
Mounted on a dustproof and weatherproof Pentax digital SLR camera body, it forms a highly reliable, durable imaging system for exceptional outdoor shots – ready for a wide range of outdoor shots in the rain, fog, or locations prone to spray.
The front lens is finished with an SP coating (Super Protect) to keep the surface free of dust or stains, and greasy traces can also be quickly removed.

The HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f2.8 ED AW lens can be pre-ordered on Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com for $546.95 in Black and Silver colors. It will be available from the end of November 2022.
