Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 10000 2TB PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD appears Online

The first NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSDs may be available soon, as online stores list the Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 10000 2TB model for backorders at $340. This price seems surprisingly reasonable considering that it’s not available in stock.

Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 10000 2TB internal desktop SSD hard drive

Intel was the first to offer PCIe 5.0 on Alder Lake desktops as early as 2021, and AMD caught up last year by offering PCIe 5.0 support with the latest Zen 4 processors. However, support without actual components that take advantage of the improved speeds is pretty useless.

The latest GPUs from Nvidia and AMD are still PCIe 4.0, so we’ll have to wait until 2024 to see any changes in the GPU industry. In 2022, it looked like some NVMe SSD manufacturers might release PCIe 5.0 models before the end of the year, but, alas, that didn’t happen either, most likely due to overheating issues .. Without any notice from Gigabyte, we are now seeing the AORUS Gen5 10000 2 TB NVMe internal desktop SSD hard drive appear on sites like Newegg and Amazon, and surprisingly enough, the prices are reasonable.

As for the performance boost, Gen 5 10000 write speeds have increased from 5.5GB/s to 8.5GB/s, while read speeds are now expected to hit 9.5GB /s instead of 7.7 GB/s. It’s not exactly a big jump, but Gigabyte plans to release a faster model soon with read speeds of 12.5 GB/s and write speeds of 10 GB/s.

Even though the official site doesn’t specify the NVMe controller brand, Gigabyte does include a fairly heavy heatsink, suggesting that a Phison controller might be involved. It is unclear if the heatsink is required as it
comes loose.

Gigabyte AORUS Gen5 10000 2TB price and release date

This internal SSD harddrive model isn’t actually in stock at any of the retailers including Newegg.com and Amazon.com, but Newegg lists it at $339.99, and it’s available for backorder. While the price makes sense since the last-gen AORUS Gen 4 7000s is now on sale for exactly 40% less (approx $200 on Amazon), we were expecting some one-upmanship given it’s the first consumer model to go on sale.

Gigabyte recently also made available the Aero 16 OLED laptop with an Intel Core i9-13900H, Nvidia RTX 4070, and a 4K+ OLED screen in 16:10 format as well as the Aero 14 OLED laptop with Intel Raptor Lake-H and RTX 4070 Laptop GPU options.
