With the Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.0, Cosina presents one of the brightest 50 mm lenses for the Sony E mount. Aspherical lenses are used to achieve first-class image quality despite the large aperture, while the lens is relatively compact.
After a 50mm f1.0 lens for Canon RF, Cosina has an almost identical lens for Sony E. Despite the enormous aperture of f/1.0, the lens is relatively compact – the metal housing measures 79 millimeters in diameter, 69 millimeters in length, and weighs 590 grams.
For comparison: The Sony Planar T FE 50mm f/1.4 Zeiss measures 108 x 83.5 millimeters and weighs 778 grams despite its much smaller aperture. The compact format is made possible, among other things, by the fact that Cosina does not use autofocus and instead uses a particularly easy-to-grip focus ring for manual focus. The lens has nine lenses in seven groups, including two with an aspherical surface.
The lens features a floating lens group that enhances image quality when shooting subjects at close range, allowing for a minimum focus distance of 45 centimeters with a magnification ratio of 1:6.9. It has a twelve-blade aperture, designed to produce exceptionally smooth bokeh. For video recording, the aperture ring adjusts smoothly without any clicking sounds. This lens also supports 67-millimeter filters and comes with a screw-on metal lens hood.
