Shokz OpenDots ONE, an interesting open ear true wireless earbuds with the perfect combination of airy design and outstanding sound quality, is the ideal choice for those who need convenience without sacrificing listening experience.

Shokz continues to change the wind of its open-ear premium wireless earbuds product line with a new clip-on form. The product uses bone conduction technology, bringing a feeling of complete freedom when worn on the ear. After nearly a week of use, I have to admit that Shokz OpenDots ONE has conquered me with its outstanding durability and comfort.
Below is a detailed review of Shokz OpenDots ONE based on my daily experiences from online meetings, gym sessions, and relaxing coffee breaks.
Shokz OpenDots ONE Review
Design and Build Quality
The OpenDots ONE charging case has a square design with an elegant glossy black color. It is significantly more compact than other open ear true wireless earbuds on the market.

The matte plastic material is resistant to sweat and fingerprints, plus the Qi wireless charging capability creates maximum convenience for users. There is a pairing button on the back of the box, and a convenient USB-C charging port below.

The completely different design, compared to the previous Shokz OpenRun wireless open-ear bone conduction sports headphones, immediately impressed me when I reviewed the Shokz OpenDots ONE. Instead of the traditional ear-hook design, OpenDots ONE applies the clip-on style like modern earrings.
Weighing just 6.5g per side, this is officially the lightest true wireless sport earbuds model in Shokz’s product portfolio.

Engineers use a highly elastic nickel-titanium alloy to make the JointArc, allowing it to bend tens of thousands of times while still maintaining its original shape. The soft silicone coating on the outside not only creates a comfortable feeling but also increases grip, helping the earphones fit firmly in the ear even during strenuous exercise.
User Experience and Features
One exciting feature is that the true wireless Bluetooth earbuds do not have left and right symbols. Thanks to Dynamic Ear Detection technology, OpenDots ONE automatically recognizes the position and adjusts the audio channel accordingly. I find this feature incredibly useful, particularly when I’m in a rush or dealing with low-light situations.

Regarding the feeling of wearing, I have to admit that it was a bit strange at first because I was not used to the ear clip style. However, after about 2-3 days of use, this feeling completely disappeared and was replaced by a comfort that made me “forget” that I was wearing earbuds. The compact speaker placed near the ear canal did not cause a feeling of suffocation, while the battery behind the ear did not create uncomfortable pressure.
A big plus is that the clip-on design is fully compatible with wearing glasses. I have tested it with many different types of frames and have not encountered any conflicts or discomfort. In particular, with the IP54 water resistance standard, you can rest assured to use it during intense training sessions or even in drizzle without worrying about damage. I have tested it through many activities, from running to going to the gym to riding a motorbike in the rain, and the open-ear true wireless earbuds still work perfectly.
Solid Sound, But Leaves More to Be Desired
Having used many types of open-ear headphones, I usually prepare myself for weak bass and low detail. OpenDots ONE has improved somewhat, but a more realistic view is needed.

Shokz’s Bassphere technology integrates two 11.8mm drivers in a spherical module, creating an effect equivalent to a 16mm driver. The result is a noticeable improvement in bass compared to traditional open-ear headphones, but in reality, the bass quality is only average, not outstanding.
For me, the bass of the OpenDots ONE is good enough for open-ear true wireless earbuds, but there are still some obvious limitations. Specifically, the bass is palpable but often lacks detail and is sometimes a bit muddy. When listening to tracks that require deep bass, such as EDM or hip-hop, I feel that the bass is present but not as deep and solid as expected.
In fact, after a period of experience, I found that the OpenDots ONE is only superior when compared to other open-ear headphones, but still far from the bass quality of traditional in-ear or over-ear headphones. The bass lacks “punch” and depth, especially when listening to bass-intensive test tracks.
Additionally, the overall volume of the OpenDots ONE is lower than I expected. In most cases, I had to adjust the volume to above 70% to hear the music clearly and fully feel the sound details. This may be due to the open-ear design and the priority of hearing safety, but sometimes it is inconvenient in noisy environments.

The highlight of the bone conduction sports headphones is the Dolby Audio feature. Activating this feature significantly improves the sound quality, creating a more spacious sound field, delivering more precise sound, and, importantly, making the perceived volume larger without actually increasing the volume level.
The midrange and treble of the OpenDots ONE are pretty good, with vocals and instruments reproduced naturally, without being harsh or dull. Overall, the OpenDots ONE has good sound quality in the open ear true wireless earbuds segment, but don’t expect too much. This is a reasonable choice if you prioritize comfort and the ability to hear the surrounding environment over absolute sound quality.
Smart Capabilities Paired with Easy-to-Use Control Software
One of the things I found quite satisfying when I evaluated the Shokz OpenDots ONE is its comprehensive, integrated smart feature system. You can control it by touching the battery part or by “pinching” two fingers in this position. At first, I felt a bit sensitive, but after I got used to it, the control felt very natural and convenient.

Shokz application has an intuitive interface and many useful features. In the main settings, you can easily turn on/off Dolby Audio – a feature that I recommend you always leave on because the sound quality improvement is significant. Besides, there are EQ modes with four available presets (Standard, Vocal, Bass, Private) and two custom slots that allow you to create personal sound profiles.
The MultiPoint Pairing feature allows you to connect two devices at the same time and switch smoothly. I usually connect both my laptop and my phone, making the transition from listening to music to receiving calls completely automatic without any additional steps.
One notable feature is Smart Wear Detection—the premium wireless earbuds automatically pause the music when you remove them and continue playing when you put them back on. Although there is a slight delay, it is very convenient for daily use.

The microphone uses Adaptive Beamforming technology and an AI noise filtering algorithm. You can turn the Microphone Noise Cancellation feature on or off in the app. The call quality via OpenDots ONE is quite good; the voice is clear even in environments with background noise. The other party always responds that they can hear them very clearly, which is not possible with all headphones.

The app also offers Find My Earbuds to find lost earbuds, automatic firmware updates, and detailed battery level tracking for each earbud. All of this works reliably and has a user-friendly interface.
Reliable Connectivity and Long-Lasting Battery
OpenDots ONE is equipped with Bluetooth 5.4 technology, providing a stable connection and superior battery saving. During use, I have not encountered any loss of connection or lag, even when moving in large spaces or when there are many other Bluetooth devices around.

Everyone is looking for true wireless earbuds with long battery life, and this is a significant advantage for the OpenDots ONE. With 10 hours of continuous use on a single charge and a total of 40 hours with the charging case, this is enough to serve you throughout the work week without worrying about battery issues. The 10-minute quick charge feature for 2 hours of use is also handy when needed in a hurry.
In particular, the Qi wireless charging capability of the charging box creates maximum convenience. Just place the box on the wireless charging pad to charge without having to dig out the cable. I often leave the charging box on my desk with the wireless charging pad, which is both convenient and keeps the space tidy.
Final Line
With a price of $199.95 at Amazon, Shokz OpenDots ONE is worth the money when compared to competitors in the same segment, such as Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (Hands-On) or similar products. Unique design, impressive sound quality, and a smart feature system have created a complete product in the premium open-ear true wireless earbuds segment.
Shokz OpenDots ONE is suitable for those who need true wireless sport earbuds for jogging, office, or traveling, especially those who want to stay aware of the environment. Although the bass is not as good as expected, the volume is a bit small, but for me, this is still an option that you should consider when deciding to switch to using clip-on open-ear headphones. Through the Shokz OpenDots ONE review, I hope you find a satisfactory item for your daily music listening needs.
