Asus TUF Gaming F16 2025 Review

For the most comprehensive look, we will analyze every aspect of the Asus TUF Gaming F16, from exterior design and display quality to CPU and GPU processing performance, cooling capacity, and battery life.

Build and Aesthetics

Asus TUF Gaming F16 remains faithful to the design language that made the TUF series famous: strong, minimalist, and somewhat “serious.” The 16-inch gaming laptop features an aluminum A-side, creating a high-end and solid feel when in contact with the sophisticated minimalist TUF logo rather than colorful details.

The remaining sides, such as the C and D sides, are finished in plastic. Although not as luxurious as the higher-end ROG lines, they still ensure the necessary sturdiness for a gaming laptop. When applying a strong force, the keyboard still exhibits a slight flex phenomenon, but under regular use and typing conditions, this is almost imperceptible.

In terms of ports, the Asus 16-inch gaming netbook is equipped with a relatively comprehensive set of ports. On the right are two 10Gbps USB-A ports, which are very convenient for plugging in mice and other peripherals. On the left is another 10Gbps USB-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 10Gbps USB-C port, and a 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4 port, providing diverse connectivity options.

In addition, the Intel i7 gaming laptop also features an HDMI 2.1 port, an RJ45 network port, and a separate Asus charging port.

Keyboard and Touchpad: Decent Everyday Usability

The TUF F16 features a full-size keyboard with a numpad. The overall keyboard quality is decent, with relatively deep key travel. However, the typing feel is a bit heavy, which may not be ideal for those who frequently type.

Backlit keyboards on Asus laptops are now quite regular. The four WASD keys are made transparent to stand out more, a characteristic detail for gamers. The keyboard backlight is RGB, but only one-zone, meaning it can display only one color at a time.

The laptop’s touchpad has a reasonably large area, providing a stable and smooth tracking experience for daily tasks. However, a minor drawback is that its surface is slightly slippery, lacking the necessary roughness to achieve the feeling of absolute precision when moving the mouse. However, for a 16-inch gaming laptop, the user will most likely use a separate mouse, so this is not a significant issue.

One small point worth praising is that the palm rest is less prone to fingerprints than the previous generation, which gamers with sweaty hands will appreciate.

Display: 165Hz and Vibrant Colors

The Asus TUF F16 features a 16-inch screen with a Full HD+ resolution (1920 x 1200) and a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing more vertical display space. The highlight of this screen is the 165Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB color coverage. The high refresh rate delivers an extraordinarily smooth and responsive gaming experience, particularly in FPS games.

In terms of color quality, the TUF F16’s display is generally of good quality. When compared to devices with high color accuracy, such as the iPhone or MacBook, the displayed colors are pretty similar. This means that, in addition to gaming, you can use this laptop for creative work, such as photo editing or video editing, at a non-intensive level.

Asus TUF Gaming F16 2025 review test

RTX 5050 = RTX 4060

Our Asus TUF Gaming F16 2025 review model features an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor, a 115W NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 GPU, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. However, since it includes only 16GB of RAM, the system may not deliver optimal GPU performance. However, you can upgrade it to 64GB to ensure optimal performance and multitasking capabilities.

This is one of the first laptops to feature an NVIDIA RTX 5050 GPU. In synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark, the RTX 5050 115W performs about the same as an RTX 4060 running at low power (around 100W). It’s weaker than the RTX 4060 140W but significantly more powerful than the RTX 3060 or RTX 4050.

The major advantage is that the RTX 5050 features 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, which provides higher memory bandwidth, potentially offering an edge in certain games.

Intel Core i7-14650HX CPU

The 14th Gen Intel Core i7-14650HX chip, with 16 cores and 24 threads, provides quite powerful performance, approximately 10-15% stronger than the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H and 20-30% stronger than the Core i7-12700H. However, this power comes at the cost of very high power consumption, reaching up to 126W, which makes the gaming laptop quite hot during CPU-intensive tasks.

Still, battery performance is outstanding, with over 17,000 Cinebench R23 points in high-performance mode and 10,500 points in power-saving mode.

Actual In-Game Performance

Shadow of the Tomb Raider:

In the familiar Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark, the RTX 5050 on the TUF F16 scored 136 FPS. This result is almost equivalent to the performance of an RTX 4060 running at its maximum power of 140W.

Black Myth: Wukong:

With the blockbuster game Black Myth: Wukong, at High graphics settings, Full HD+ resolution, Ray Tracing off, and Frame Generation on, the device achieved 88 FPS, providing a relatively smooth experience. However, when Ray Tracing was enabled, even at the Medium setting, the FPS dropped to approximately 52. This shows that for the best experience, users should sacrifice the Ray Tracing effect in exchange for a stable frame rate.

Cyberpunk 2077:

This is where the power of Frame Generation technology on the 5000-series is most evident. At Full HD resolution, the laptop runs the game at only around 30–31 FPS when both Ray Tracing and Path Tracing are enabled, but Frame Generation is turned off. Enabling Frame Generation 4X boosts the FPS to over 100—more than a 3.3x improvement. If you disable Ray Tracing entirely and keep only Frame Generation on, the system can push the FPS up to 235–236, delivering a smooth and comfortable gaming experience.

Forza Horizon 5:

With Forza Horizon 5, the limits of 8GB VRAM start to show. When you turn on the highest graphics setting, Extreme, the game immediately reports a memory shortage.

I had to reduce it to Ultra. In this setting, with DLSS, Frame Generation, and Ray Tracing enabled, the gaming laptop achieved very high frame rates, ranging from 160 to 170 FPS. An interesting point is that when Frame Generation was disabled, the FPS only dropped to around 110-120, indicating that this feature increased performance by only about 40-50% in this game, which is less impressive than in Cyberpunk 2077.

PUBG:

With this popular eSports title, at High settings, the device provides a stable frame rate of 130 to 140 FPS. When pushed to Ultra, the FPS will drop to around 110-120. However, it should be noted that at Ultra, the GPU will consume more power, resulting in the laptop becoming slightly warmer. Therefore, for the most balanced and cool experience, High settings are the optimal choice.

Thermals and Fan Noise

Interestingly, even with Turbo mode enabled in Armory Crate for maximum performance, the GPU only consumed an average of 80-90W. Only when playing PUBG at Ultra did the GPU consume around 95W, and it rarely exceeded 100W, even though the theoretical TGP of the RTX 5050 on the TUF Gaming F16 can reach up to 115W (100W + 15W Dynamic Boost).

Thanks to the GPU consuming only an average of 80-90W, its temperature remains relatively cool, typically around 70°C under ideal conditions. However, the CPU is quite hot, often above 80°C due to high power consumption.

A significant advantage is that the keyboard remains quite cool when playing games, only slightly warm, which provides a comfortable feel. In return, the F16’s cooling fan is quite noisy when operating at full capacity, so it’s recommended to use headphones for the best experience.

Battery Life

Surprisingly, a powerful gaming laptop with a 90Wh battery has perfect battery life. The F16 can play 4K videos on YouTube continuously for 5 hours and 30 minutes. For online work tasks, the device should last about 4 to 4.5 hours.

To achieve this, you need to switch to power-saving mode and leave the GPU running in Standard or Optimized mode in Armoury Crate so that the machine automatically switches to the iGPU when required.

Final Line

The Asus TUF Gaming F16 (2025) with RTX 5050 is an intriguing 16-inch gaming laptop, but it is also quite challenging to recommend at the moment due to its relatively high price. Although it has been reduced to approximately $1,299.99 on B&H Photo and Amazon, the laptop’s configuration is not well-balanced for pure gaming, as the CPU is significantly stronger than the GPU.

If you are a gamer, opting for a laptop with an RTX 4060 and a slightly weaker CPU for under $1,000 will be a more reasonable choice. At this price range, you can try a little more to get the RTX 5060 version for around $1,500.

However, you need a powerful CPU for tasks such as programming, data processing, 2D/3D graphics, and gaming as a side benefit. In that case, this is an option worth considering, especially since gaming laptops are likely to become more affordable in the future. The performance of the RTX 5050 remains excellent, comparable to that of a low-power RTX 4060, and it boasts 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM.
