Samsung Galaxy Book3 Series with 120 Hz AMOLED Displays and Raptor Lake CPUs

During the Unpacked event, besides the Galaxy S23 series (Hands-on), Samsung also launched new laptops, including Galaxy Book3 Ultra, Galaxy Book3 Pro, and Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, but in which we were most impressed with Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra. It is Samsung’s most powerful laptop to date. Despite the Intel Core i9 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, the notebook is relatively thin and light, 120 Hz AMOLED touchscreen in 16:10 format, and the AKG quad speakers round off the equipment.

The laptop has a relatively simple design with particularly narrow screen bezels, a tiny 1,080p webcam above the display, a wide trackpad, and a backlit keyboard with a number pad. On the left, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports (USB-C) and an HDMI 2.0 port. On the right, there is a USB-A connector, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader.

The great feature of the Galaxy Book3 Ultra is the combination of enormous performance and light aluminum housing. The device is 16.5 millimeters thin and 1.79 kilograms light, yet powerful enough for creative professionals and even gaming enthusiasts. Because Samsung installs either an unspecified Intel Core i7 or Intel Core i9 of the 13th generation and, depending on the model, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU or even a GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU.

However, the manufacturer does not provide any information on the TGP of the graphics chips, and Samsung does not say a word about the cooling system in the press release. Instead, the focus is on the many features designed to facilitate collaboration between Samsung Galaxy smartphones and the Galaxy Book3 Ultra, ranging from Samsung’s Multi-Control feature, which allows a smartphone to be controlled with the laptop’s trackpad and keyboard to Second Screen, which allows a Galaxy Tab to be used as a second display.

A highlight of the device is the 16-inch, 120 Hz fast AMOLED panel in 16:10 format, which has a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels and a brightness of 400 nits in SDR mode, or 500 nits when displaying HDR content. The DCI-P3 color space can be displayed at 120 percent. The notebook supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1. Samsung installs 16 GB to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 512 GB to 1 TB PCIe SSD, which can be expanded with a second M.2 slot, but this will void the warranty.

The Samsung Galaxy Book3 Ultra combines two 5-watt woofers with two 2-watt tweeters, all optimized by the audio experts at AKG. The battery has a capacity of 76 Wh and is charged via USB-C with up to 100 watts. A fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button enables Windows login without a password.

Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360

Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 is a new 2-in-1 laptop that is equipped with, among other things, Raptor Lake CPUs and a 120 Hz fast 3K AMOLED touch display with S Pen functionality, which is also optional and can also be configured with a 5G modem.

The convertible comes with a 16-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It has an aspect ratio of 16:10 with 3K (2,880 x 1,800 pixels). In addition to finger input, the touchscreen also has S Pen functionality, the input pen is included in the scope of delivery. The other key figures of the display are 48 to 120 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, and 120 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

In terms of processors, Samsung offers the Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 with two different alternatives from Intel’s current Raptor Lake generation. As with the Galaxy Book3 Pro 14/16, you can choose between the Intel Core i5-1340P and the Intel Core i7-1360P. Depending on the configuration, Samsung combines this with 8 or 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of SSD storage space. There is no dedicated graphics solution. Instead, the iGPU Intel Iris Xe is used.

While Wi-Fi 6E (802.11 ax 2×2) and Bluetooth 5.1 are always on board, Samsung’s new 2-in-1 notebook is also optionally available with a 5G modem, which, however, only covers the sub-6 GHz range. The manufacturer also installs a backlit keyboard with NumPad, a fingerprint sensor, a 1080p webcam with dual mic, and AKG quad speakers with Dolby Atmos. The battery has a capacity of 76 Wh and charges via a 65 W USB-C power supply. The connections are two Thunderbolt 4, one USB-A, one HDMI 1.4 and an audio port, a MicroSD card reader, and the optional Nano SIM slot.

Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro

Along with the Galaxy Book3 Ultra and the convertible Galaxy Book3 Pro 360, Samsung also unveiled its two new Pro notebooks, the Galaxy Book3 Pro 14 and Pro 16. In addition to Raptor Lake CPUs and up to 1 TB of SSD storage space, the manufacturer also installs 14 or 16-inch AMOLED displays with 3K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Apart from the screen size, both devices are identical. Samsung installs a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 16:10 aspect ratio in both devices, which, according to the device name, measures either 14 or 16 inches. It updates at up to 120 Hz, has a resolution of 3K (2,880 x 1,800 pixels), shines up to 400 nits brightly, and covers 120 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. The smaller display results in the Galaxy Book3 Pro 14 weighing just 1.17 kg with dimensions of 312.3 x 223.8 x 11.3 mm, while the Galaxy Book3 Pro 16 tips the scales at 1.56 kg and 355 .3 x 250.4 x 12.5 mm.

Intel’s latest generation Raptor Lake CPUs work inside both models. You can choose between the Intel Core i5-1340P and the i7-1360P. Samsung does not use a dedicated graphics solution and instead relies on the Intel Iris Xe iGPU. Depending on the version and country, the manufacturer combines up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1 TB of SSDs. Optionally, the storage space can be expanded via a free M2 slot, which, according to our information, will void the warranty if the case is opened.

Other features of the two new Galaxy Book3 Pro models include a 1080p webcam with dual mic, AKG quad speakers with Dolby Atmos and Smart Amp, and a backlit keyboard in the 16-inch model with a Numpad. There are also various software features such as Link to Windows / Microsoft Phone Link, Instant Hotspot, Samsung Multi Control, and Second Screen.

At 63 Wh, the battery in the 14-inch model is smaller than the 76 Wh capacity in the Galaxy Book3 Pro 16. It is charged with a 65-watt USB-C charger. Two Thunderbolt 4, one USB Type-A, HDMI 1.4, a microSD card reader, and an audio port are distributed on the sides.
