Samsung unveiled the latest addition to its flagship lineup, the Galaxy S23 series. Fans will be delighted to know that the new phone is equipped with a Snapdragon SoC, which is said to be the fastest Snapdragon yet. Samsung has a close partnership with Qualcomm in other aspects as well. However, it is worth noting that the prices of these devices have also gone up. Stay tuned for our hands-on experience with the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+ to learn more about these exciting new devices.

The design of the Galaxy S23 series has been simplified and made flatter. The screen brightness has been evenly improved across the range. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip has been specifically optimized for the entire series, and the battery capacity has been increased by 200mAh, among other highlights. This applies to both the Galaxy S23 and S23+.

The back is flat and square

The appearance of the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus has not changed much compared to the previous generation. However, when holding the device, we immediately noticed a difference in the handling experience.

Samsung has flattened its devices progressively, starting with the S20. Not only is the screen flat, but the back has also been completely leveled. The rear glass and the frame edges that touch the back are now straight-cut and beveled. This makes the device feel more square and solid when held in the hand. The Galaxy S23 and S23+ have followed suit with an even flatter back design.

The aluminum frame surrounding the device has a gentle curve that feels smooth in the hand. The design eliminates the risk of pinching when used without a case. The S23 and S23 Plus will also be available in new colors inspired by nature, in addition to the existing ones.

Simple camera design

The camera cluster, which comprises three lenses, is positioned directly on the back of the device, bypassing the need for a module. This simple approach not only results in a clean and attractive look but also enhances the overall appearance of the phone.

The camera cluster of the S23 and S23+ is compact by design, but this streamlines all unnecessary components, creating uniformity in camera design across the entire product range.

Both devices have the same camera parameters, specifically:

  • The main camera has a 50MP resolution and supports OIS anti-shake
  • 12MP ultra wide-angle camera
  • 10MP telephoto camera
  • 12MP selfie camera

The camera of the S23 series is capable of better night portraits, and the selfie camera with context-sensitive autofocus.

1750 nits brightness display

The design of the screen is consistent, and in our view, it is already aesthetically pleasing, therefore there is no need for any additions or subtractions. The borders around all four sides are exceptionally thin and evenly distributed. The Infinity-O screen features a compact selfie camera situated in the center, making it both visually attractive and practical to use.

The Samsung S23 has a screen size of 6.1 inches, while the S23 Plus has a screen size of 6.6 inches. Both devices feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The only improvement made to the screen is an increase in brightness to 1750 nits on all three devices, eliminating any previous discrimination against the S23.

Other features

The Galaxy S23 and S23+ both utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which Samsung has procured separately from Qualcomm for this new flagship generation.

This chip will significantly enhance the device’s performance, especially concerning the CPU, NPU, and GPU. Samsung has also announced that the cooling system on these devices has been improved, with a vapor chamber volume that is 2.7 times greater than the previous generation.

The battery capacity of the Galaxy S23 has been increased to 3,900mAh, and the capacity of the S23+ has been raised to 4,700mAh. Both models support 45W charging and 15W wireless charging.

In general, the Galaxy S23 and S23+ offer improved experiences compared to their previous generation. They feature a sleeker design, a camera that prioritizes night photography, a high-performance configuration with an optional separate chipset, and an enhanced battery.
