Ricoh GR III HDF compact camera with APS-C sensor and Highlight Diffusion Filter

The Ricoh GR III is a compact camera that features an APS-C sensor, making it one of the smallest cameras in the world with such a feature. Recently relaunched as the HDF camera, it also includes a highlight diffusion filter, with the option for buyers to choose between a wide-angle and a normal lens.

This updated version, almost identical to the previous model, features the addition of the eponymous “Highlight Diffusion Filter.” Users can activate this feature with the push of a button to give highlights in photos a soft shine, creating overall softness in the image. The HDF filter replaces the ND filter found in the standard Ricoh GR III.

Other features on the camera remain unaffected, including the 24.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, with light sensitivity between ISO 100 and 102,400. The camera stabilizes on three axes and records 14-bit RAW photos on an SDXC memory card.

In terms of functionality, the device features programmable buttons and a 3-inch touchscreen, which doubles as a viewfinder due to the lack of an EVF, though an optional optical clip-on viewfinder is available for purchase.

Autofocus, manual focus, macro mode, and zone focus options are available for users to choose their desired focus distance. Equipped with a nearly silent central shutter, the camera is ideal for street photography.
