Polaroid I-2 Instant Camera with Autofocus and LiDAR

Polaroid, renowned for its iconic presence in instant photography, has unveiled the I-2, its latest flagship camera and the world’s first to integrate manual controls directly. Additionally, the I-2 boasts the sharpest Polaroid optics to date, complemented by LiDAR autofocus technology.

Polaroid dedicated four years to crafting the I-2, even enlisting the expertise of former Olympus engineers to collaborate on the development of its groundbreaking autofocus and lens technologies.

Characterized by its sleek and utilitarian design, the I-2 introduces an enhanced lens renowned as “the sharpest Polaroid ever,” with a 98mm f/8 configuration (equivalent to approximately 38mm f/3.2). The camera’s optics feature a 3-element continuous autofocus system, empowering photographers to manually select apertures at any focusing distance beyond the minimum of 3.3 cm. The autofocus system itself is intricately governed by a high-precision IR sensor, LiDAR-based distance detection mechanism, and a precision stepper motor.

The I-2’s integrated manual controls grant users the ability to both view and fine-tune shooting settings via the external display on the LCD module, as well as monitor them through the built-in viewfinder. The lens aperture encompasses an expansive range from f/8 to f/64, while shutter speeds span from 1/250 to a lengthy 30 seconds.

Further diversifying its offerings, the Polaroid I-2 provides an array of modes including auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, multiple exposures, and a self-timer mode. Leveraging the Polaroid app in conjunction with the I-2 camera unveils its full potential, unlocking comprehensive manual control for multiple exposure modes. Additional exposure possibilities encompass a built-in flash, up to 2-stop exposure compensation in either direction, and a 2.5mm port for external flash synchronization.

Polaroid preserves its rich legacy by ensuring the camera’s compatibility with 600 and SX-70 films, as well as the most recent generation of i-Type film. Concurrently, the brand launches a range of genuine leather accessories to accompany the camera, including a shoulder holster, strap, and carrying case.

Other notable features of the camera comprise a 49mm filter thread, a standard 1/4″-20 tripod mount, and a convenient carrying strap. The camera derives power from an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery, conveniently charged via the included USB-C connector.
