The new best action camera for underwater video has been introduced: Insta360 X4. It supports 360-degree video recording in 8K, 5.7K at 60fps, 4K at 100fps, and single-lens mode up to 4K/60fps. This compact action waterproof camera is easy to control and edit.
The new X4’s 8K mode offers the highest resolution among Insta360’s 360-degree action cameras, surpassing the X3’s 5.7K 30p capability. The manufacturer guarantees sharp, detailed 360-degree video, highlighting that 8K resolution allows for extensive cropping in post-processing. But in this mode, there is a limit of 30 frames per second. If you need higher speed, you can choose 5.7K 60p or 4K 100p modes.
In photo mode, the 360 action sports camera allows you to take 72-megapixel 360-degree photos with built-in noise reduction. There is an invisible selfie stick mode for both video and photos.
The new X4 features a half-inch sensor paired with f/1.9 lenses with an equivalent focal length of 6.7mm. The camera can also shoot in DNG (RAW). ISO range X4: 100-6400, and shutter speed up to 1/8000s.
The camera features a new 5nm AI processor, enhancing noise reduction and other imaging capabilities. In single-lens mode, the Insta360 X4 operates as a regular action camera with a 170° view angle, supporting video recording up to 4K 60fps.
Designed for extreme conditions, the camera comes with an easy-to-install, scratch-resistant protective glass.
The best action camera for underwater video received a new battery with increased capacity (2290 mAh), which provides shooting duration 67% longer than its predecessor. Full charging time – 60 minutes, charging up to 80% – in 36 minutes.
While many users will likely find the 4K/100p mode fast enough, the X4’s Bullet Time mode, for example, runs at 5.7K/120p or 3K/240p resolution. There is also a TimeShift 8K hyper-lapse mode and a Timelapse function with a resolution of 11K. In addition, the X4 received a Motion ND digital filter effect.

Insta360 X4 8K in a minimal configuration, including protective glass for the camera lenses, will cost $499.99 or £499.99. The camera is already available for purchase on Amazon.com, Bhphotovideo.com, and Amazon.co.uk.

The new X4 measures 123.6 x 46 x 26.3mm, weighs 203g, has a 2.5-inch touchscreen with Gorilla Glass, and is waterproof up to 10m, with an optional housing up to 50m.
In addition to using AI algorithms in the camera, the Insta360 app offers even more AI-enabled features, including editing – Insta360’s custom algorithm handles the entire process, including reframing, thanks to improved object recognition. Users can choose from more than 30 effects with one touch.
Additionally, footage can be edited in the newly updated free Insta360 Studio app, which can be used for both 360-degree content and regular content.
