With the Beoplay EQ, Bang & Olufsen has introduced its first truly wireless noise cancelling headphones with a high-quality aluminum housing, long battery life, and an advanced Bluetooth codec, the active noise cancelling headphones have a lot to offer.
The new Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EQ is positioned as a direct competitor to the Bowers & Wilkins PI7 (approx. $400 on Bhphotovideo), because of the completely wireless noise canceling headphones not only cost the same amount, the range of functions and the materials chosen are also very similar.
The B O EQ, B&O Beoplay EQ, however, offers a decisive advantage, namely the battery life of 6.5 hours with active noise cancellation (ANC), the charging case stores enough energy for two additional charges, and charging can be done either via USB-C or on a Qi charging pad. The charging case is largely made of aluminum, the Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones themselves are partly made of polymer, and the earplugs are made of silicone as usual. An IP54 certification promises protection against dust and splashes of water.
In addition to the active noise suppression, the support for Qualcomm aptX Adaptive is a highlight of the equipment, because the Bluetooth codec theoretically offers a significantly higher quality than AAC and SBC. A touch-sensitive surface on the outside of the earbuds enables playback and volume control. A total of six microphones should achieve the best possible voice quality. Electro-dynamic drivers with a diameter of 6.8 millimeters are responsible for the sound.
B&O Beoplay EQ price and availability
The Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EQ noise cancellation headphones are now available to pre-order from the Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online stores for a recommended retail price of $399 and come in Black and Sand color options.
It is $75 more expensive than the recently announced Beoplay E8 Sport (approx. $325 on Amazon), which lacks support for active noise cancellation. The battery life with the charging case has been reduced from 35 hours to 20 hours compared to the previous model. The usage time of the earbuds themselves remained about the same: 6.5 hours with the noise canceling system on or an hour longer without it. Charging is done via the USB Type-C interface or Qi wireless technology.
