Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 becomes lighter and 88% faster

Microsoft is back with an upgrade to its remarkably compact 12.4-inch laptop, the Surface Laptop Go 3 2023, boasting a 3:2 display and a claimed 88 percent increase in performance.

In conjunction with the Surface Laptop Studio 2, Microsoft has introduced the Surface Laptop Go 3 2023. This pint-sized notebook, tipping the scales at just 1.13 kilograms, retains its predecessor’s compact form factor. It features a 12.4-inch IPS panel in a 3:2 aspect ratio, offering a resolution of 1,536 x 1,024 pixels and a luminance level of 320 nits.

While the overall design remains unchanged, Microsoft has made an internal shift, replacing the Intel Core i5-1135G7 with a Core i5-1235U. This update results in a total of ten computing cores, a significant jump from the previous four. Even though only two of these cores are optimized for performance, Microsoft asserts an 88 percent increase in overall performance.

Notably, the base model now starts with 8 GB of RAM, a substantial upgrade from the previous 4 GB, while the top-tier model boasts 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD.

Thanks to this new processor, the 41 Wh battery is expected to deliver an extended runtime, going from 13.5 to 15 hours on paper. The device’s port selection, however, remains somewhat limited, featuring just one USB-C 3.2, one USB-A 3.1, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a Surface Connect port.

Notably, Microsoft has reconfigured the internal layout, allowing for post-purchase SSD upgrades, and the keyboard and touchpad should now be more easily replaceable in case of defects.

Surface Laptop Go 3 release date and price

The Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 3 is slated for release in the US on October 3rd, with prices starting at $799. Both Bhphotovideo.com and Amazon.com online stores are currently accepting orders for the new device.
