QNAP announces new Intel Xeon-based NAS with optional Thunderbolt 3 updates

QNAP has launched the TVS-h1288X and TVS-h1688X, two new enterprise NAS devices with the Intel Xeon processor. They are also compatible with PCIe Gen 3 cards which can supplement them with up to 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. These NAS storage devices are also the first to be launched with the new QuTS hero operating system.

Taiwanese company QNAP is now offering new tower-shaped network-attached storage based on Intel’s Xeon W-1250 6-core / 12-thread. This hnn88x series also features a hot-swappable 2.5 or 3.5-inch SATA 6Gbps drive bay or houses up to 2 M.2 22110 or 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen 3 x4 SSDs.

Its connectivity is provided by 2 10GBASE-T ports (1/10 gigabit Ethernet (GbE)) or 4 RJ45 ports (1 / 2.5GbE). NAS system also has 3 PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots, although one of them is occupied by the dual-port 10GBASE-T network card. The others could be used for Thunderbolt 3 cards from this OEM, although these are separate purchases.

The new NAS drives have also 1 HDMI 1.4b default. There’s also a 3.5mm dynamic microphone jack, 3.5mm line-out jack, and a built-in speaker for more direct (potentially 4K) use of files. They also support ZFS based data integrity and reduction and are also the first QNAP QuTS hero NAS box devices.

The two new NAS cloud storage servers are also equipped with a power supply of 550 W. The TVS-h1288X equipped with 8 x 3.5-inch SATA drive bays and 4 x 2.5-inch SATA SSD bays, 16 GB DDR4 ECC memory (2 x 8 GB), 5 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps ports (2 x Type-C + 3 x Type-A). While the TVS-h1688X has 12 x 3.5-inch SATA drive bays and 4 x 2.5-inch SATA SSD bays, 32 GB DDR4 ECC memory (2 x 16 GB), 6 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbs ports (2 x Type-C + 4 x Type-A).

The QNAP TVS-h1288X with Intel Xeon processor has been priced at $1,999 and is available to buy on the Bhphotovideo.com website.

Yesterday, TerraMaster has also expanded its F5-221 NAS storage device for small businesses and home users. The NAS Cloud Storage is built on a dual-core Intel Celeron J3355 processor, clocked at 2.0-2.5 GHz, which has 2GB of RAM. The memory can be expanded up to 6GB, priced at $359.99.

    Both been available for a while
    Both QuTS Hero / ZFS
