With the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f2.8 ASPH, Leica is expanding its SL lens portfolio with a universal zoom for general areas of photography and video productions. With the large focal length range and the consistently high light intensity of 2.8, the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f2.8 ASPH is a universal lens which, with its price-performance ratio, should make it easier to get started with the Leica SL system. In addition, two new sets of the camera family are aimed at newcomers to the system.
An elaborate construction with 19 elements in 15 groups ensures a particularly high optical performance, according to Leica, with three lenses having aspherical surfaces on both sides and nine special glasses with anomalous partial dispersion for chromatic correction over the entire focal length range. The inner focusing through a light single-lens uses a quiet stepper motor for fast and precise autofocus. For use under rough conditions, the robust metal housing of the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH is equipped with protection against splash water and dust.
The compact design of the lens has been achieved by dispensing with an optical image stabilizer integrated with it. In conjunction with the Leica SL2 and SL2-S, the movably suspended image sensor of the cameras takes over efficient image stabilization when taking photos and when shooting films. The screen, which consists of 11 individual lamellas, ensures a harmonious, round bokeh. The shortest recording distance of only 18 centimeters for the shortest and 38 centimeters for the longest focal length from the image sensor also ensures high imaging performance even at close range.
