Toshiba has announced the release of two new series of internal hard drives. According to the manufacturer, the N300 Pro and X300 Pro are “excellent solutions for business owners and creative professionals, respectively, who are looking for a hard drive built for high performance and reliability.”
Toshiba internal hard drives are available up to 18 TB. They are designed for workloads up to 300 TB per year. Let us clarify that the workload is understood as the amount of data transferred in any of the modes: reading, writing or verifying. New HDDs come with a five-year warranty.
The N300 Pro and X300 Pro drives use Toshiba’s proprietary Cache and Stable Platter technologies (for 10TB and larger models) and FC-MAMR 3 (for 18TB models). Both series include 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 TB models. The spindle speed in all cases is 7200 rpm. For drives with a capacity of 10 TB or more, the containment zones are filled with helium.
N300 Pro NAS hard drive models are suitable for 24/7 operation in NAS with up to 24 bays. They are equipped with sensors to reduce rotational vibration. MTBF is claimed to be 1.2 million hours. According to the manufacturer, these HDDs are well suited for medium and large enterprises.
The description of the X300 Pro mentions “an innovative actuator design that helps optimize positioning accuracy and read/write performance for real-time data access.” These HDDs are claimed to have an MTBF of 1.0 million hours. According to Toshiba, the X300 Pro hard drives are designed for desktop workstations and high-performance gaming computers.
