Antelope Audio launches Discrete 4 Pro Synergy Core Audio Interface

Antelope Audio introduces a new best audio interface. Discrete 4 Pro Synergy Core relies on connections with Thunderbolt 3 and USB, plus there is plenty of analog and digital inputs and outputs. The interface garnishes all this with an internal DSP for effect calculations.

The manufacturer reports that the latest generation of the in-house AD/DA converter is in the new interface. Of course, they not only offer better sound, but also a little more dynamic range. According to Antelope Audio, 64-bit AFC clocking promises good stereo imaging. Discrete 4 Pro SC — as it is called — connects to the computer via USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.

Four discrete 6-transistor preamps are available for the analog inputs, which promise the quality you are used to from high-end mixing consoles. Of the four combo sockets for XLR/jack, two on the rear are suitable for mic and line inputs, the two front analog inputs can also be used for Hi-Z signals. As usual with Antelope Audio, all inputs are DC-coupled. On top of that, there are digital inputs: In addition to S/PDIF, a further eight channels are available via ADAT.

On the output side, the best audio interface is also well equipped. First of all, there are four analog jack outputs, which are also DC-coupled and can therefore output control voltages, for example. There are also two jack sockets for connecting studio monitors. There are a whopping four independent headphone jacks on the front. And not to forget: Two outputs for the word clock are built-in here. S/PDIF and ADAT are also available for the outputs.

Antelope Audio reports that all inputs and outputs can be used simultaneously. The virtual patch bay helps with configuration and assignment. The software control panel lets you create your own presets and controls up to four independent virtual mixers, each with 32 tracks.

Effects can be applied to any input. That makes it possible to create different versions of a recording and then distribute them to the four headphone outputs. The interface contains 37 DSP effects in advance, you can distribute them to up to 16 channel strips – four times as many as in the previous model. And of course, other effects are optionally available.
