Asus finally announces concrete release date for the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED

Asus continues to teaser the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, a foldable laptop that the company unveiled in January at CES 2022. Now, the company has finally provided a fixed Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED release date, which offers a panel of 12.5 inches when folded.

The Asus Zenbook 17 OLED also offers an Intel Core i7-1250U and Thunderbolt 4 ports, among other specs. It looks like Asus is all set to release the Asus 17 Fold OLED, a foldable laptop it introduced in January 2022. Unveiled at CES 2022, the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED appeared to be the second mass-produced foldable laptop after the ThinkPad X1 Fold (REVIEW) whose second generation has already been teased by Lenovo. Originally, Asus hoped to release the Asus 17 Fold OLED in the middle of the year, which has now passed.

Instead, the Bhphotovideo.com website confirmed the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED release date for August 31 and will be available to pre-order from the same day. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen how much the foldable laptop will cost. If the original ThinkPad X1 Fold, the Asus 17 Fold OLED will be considerably more expensive than all but ASUS’ most powerful gaming laptops.

The Asus ZenBook Fold 17 OLED display measures 17.3 inches with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,920 pixels (4:3 aspect ratio) in its unfolded state. Otherwise, it’s a 12.5-inch device with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,280 pixels (3:2 aspect ratio). It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and an 87% screen-to-body ratio. The laptop/tablet hybrid features noticeable bezels with a pill-shaped cutout in the center, along with a color sensor, IR camera, and 5MP QHD webcam. Asus says the color sensor detects ambient light levels and adjusts the screen’s brightness and color temperature

The foldable laptop is powered by a 12th-generation Intel Core i7-1250U Alder Lake processor and 16 GB of RAM. A 75Wh battery powers the laptop/tablet hybrid, which can be folded and unfolded up to 30,000 times. Its on-board software detects the orientation of the tablet and switches between portrait, landscape, and folded modes. Input options on the Asus 17 Fold OLED are a bit lacking, given its 1.6kg weight and compact (8.7mm thick) form factor. It has two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. As for wireless, it has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2.
