In the ever-evolving world of digital cinema, Red Digital Cinema continues to push boundaries with its groundbreaking technology. Building upon the success of the KOMODO line, Red is proud to announce the release of the KOMODO-X 6K, a digital cinema camera that takes filmmaking to new heights. With faster frame rates, a redesigned sensor, and advanced video and audio interfaces, the KOMODO-X is poised to revolutionize the way professionals capture and create cinematic masterpieces.

One of the standout features of the KOMODO-X is its redesigned S35 sensor, which has been meticulously crafted to deliver exceptional image quality and color science. This sensor, while maintaining the same size as the original 6K S35 global-shutter KOMODO sensor, offers key architectural improvements that result in enhanced shadow detail and vibrant colors. Filmmakers can now unleash their creativity with confidence, knowing that every frame will be a work of art.

The KOMODO-X isn’t just about stunning visuals; it also boasts impressive frame rates. With the ability to shoot up to 80 frames per second in 6K and up to 120 frames per second in 4K, filmmakers can capture the action with remarkable clarity and detail. Whether it’s a fast-paced action sequence or a slow-motion shot, the KOMODO-X excels in capturing every moment precisely as intended.

Red understands the importance of versatility in filmmaking, and the KOMODO-X caters to this need. The camera is compatible with the upcoming PRO I/O Module, allowing for auxiliary power and the use of full-size Gold and V-mount batteries. Additionally, its built-in microplate enables the direct mounting of Micro V-mount batteries, eliminating the need for adapters. With a reinforced, locking Canon RF lens mount, the KOMODO-X ensures compatibility with a wide range of lenses. For those wanting to use ARRI PL-mount lenses, the camera can be paired with the RED RF to PL adapter.

Filmmaking often demands adaptability, especially in challenging shooting environments. To address this, the KOMODO-X features an integrated 2.9″ LCD, allowing users to preview images and access simplified controls even in tight spaces. For more precise monitoring and full control, the camera can be paired with the daylight-viewable DSMC3 7″ Touch LCD, providing an immersive experience while maintaining a cable-free setup.

Embracing the future of filmmaking, the KOMODO-X offers seamless integration into IP-based workflows. Its USB-C interface and integrated Wi-Fi enable streamlined processes like Virtual Production and live broadcasting. By utilizing the RED Control or Control Pro apps, users gain remote camera control, FTP media off-loading, and in-camera Cloud uploading. For those looking to broadcast live images directly from the camera, adding a RED Connect license allows for up to 6K live image broadcasting over IP.

Multicamera setups and LED volume shooting setups will appreciate the KOMODO-X’s frame-accurate PTP or trilevel genlock syncing, with the added ability to make on-the-fly offset adjustments. Red has also made significant improvements to the audio options of the camera. It now includes a locking, phantom-powered 5-pin connector that can be used with a 3.5mm adapter and KOMODO microphones, or with a dual XLR adapter and a wide array of microphones, giving filmmakers greater flexibility in capturing high-quality audio.
