Dell Latitude 9420 brings Best Business Laptop with Intel Tiger-Lake

After a decade, Dell has introduced a new business laptop from the Latitude series with a 16:10 screen. The Dell Latitude 9420 comes as a 2-in-1 as well as a regular laptop and is powered by Intel Tiger-Lake.

In order to find the last Dell Latitude with a screen in 16:10 format, one has to look far back into the past. In 2010 the Dell Latitude E6410 came on the market. Back then on-board: a 14-inch display with 1,440 x 900 resolution (WXGA+). The successor, Dell Latitude E6420, already relied on a 16: 9 display with 1,600 x 900 (HD+).

Ten years later, the era of Dell laptops with 16: 9 format is not over – the cheaper Dell Latitude 5000 and Dell Latitude 7000 continue to use the wider television format. But at least buyers now have the option again for the first time, because the new Dell Latitude 9420 relies on a borderless 16:10 LCD with a diagonal of 14 inches.

Two resolutions are offered: 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA / FHD+) and 2,560 x 1,600 (QHD). However, the higher-resolution display will only be available in the convertible model, which means a glossy touch surface. The normal business laptop version always contains the matt WUXGA LCD. Both displays should achieve a brightness value of 500 cd/m².

The other format means that Dell had to completely redesign the housing compared to the Latitude 9410. The opportunity was taken to reduce the weight by around 200 g and also to reduce the overall height. However, this comes at the expense of the battery: the predecessor had a capacity of 78 Wh, while the new Dell laptop only has a maximum of 60 Wh.

Internally, there is of course the upgrade to Intel Tiger Lake, and there is also a new 5G option. However, Dell still does not seem to want to offer AMD Ryzen CPUs. After all, the soldered RAM with Tiger-Lake is finally being switched from LPDDR3 to LPDDR4, so there is a new 32 GB option.

The ports have been upgraded to Thunderbolt 4. There is only one USB-A port instead of two. In contrast, the number of speakers has doubled. Probably also to make room for it, Dell is using extremely short M.2 2230 SSDs for the first time in the Latitude 9420, with a maximum capacity of 1 TB.

Recently, Dell has also made available the Inspiron 14 2-in-1 convertible laptop has a 14-inch display with full HD resolution and supports input with a pen. As a processor, you can choose between various AMD and Intel processors of the latest generation.
