Asus Zen Phone 5 Review:

The smartphone has a little minus point is configured not have many improvements over the previous version, should not improve the speed of the smartphone. The camera is equipped with new technology that captures images with enhanced sensitivity and sharp images in low light conditions, but in normal conditions sometimes make overexpose the image.

Overall, the Asus Zenfone 5 really remarkable, but has the advantage of low costs, and full ownership of the essential features of this phone. To create breakthroughs in this phone, Asus need to add many more outstanding features.

Before launch, this smartphone is anticipated to bring many surprises, but the reality is not the same as expected. Asus ZenFone 5 is equipped with a fully functional, sleek, compact design similar to high price range smartphones but has much lower price, only about $ 190. Asus ZenFone 5 is really good phone, just not fast operation speed is the biggest drawback.

Is the second product in the series of ZenFone. This Asus ZenFone 5 has 5-inch screen has the same design as the previews ZenFone. ZenFone line is equipped with the Intel Atom dual-core processor for fast processing speeds instead of the usual ARM chip in Qualcomm or MediaTek but the phone is still more expensive than other use.

Design of Asus ZenFone 5:

The design is based on the previous zenphone, Asus ZenFone 5 has monolithic design gives you much seems sure. The back of the lid is plastic designed curved at the corners with circle pattern radial feels very fine in hand, fits the palm and easy to handle. Phone has 3 built-in touch bottom of the screen. The screen size of 5-inch HD, 1280x720p resolution, 294 ppi pixel density for sharp images, vibrant colors, although still pretty much inferior when compared to the HTC One M8.

Metal bar Design at the bottom of the touch keys with ring radial pattern, the typically found in the line of zenphone. ZenFone 5 is more prominent and increase the rigidity of the device which has no effect on the operation.

Plastic rear cover can be easily disassembled for installation of standard microSim and sim card, however 2110 mAh battery is non-removable. The rear speaker design and 8-megapixel camera looks simple. ZenFone 5 weighs 145g, which is considered average weight.

Inside, Asus Zenfone 5 equipped with the Intel Atom Z2580 2GHz dual-core processor, combined with 8GB of internal memory and 1GB RAM ensures multitasking, multiple apps open at the same time. In addition, the integrated Bluetooth and Wi-fi, but does not yet support NFC.

Features of Asus ZenFone 5:

ZenFone 5 running Android 4.3 with custom interface ZenUI, is the combination of iOS and Windows Phone. Asus said technicians were working to create different innovative operating system to provide customers a better experience.

The first thing you see when you turn on the display screen ZenFone 5 has a new innovative timeline notes the upcoming appointments to remind the user. Another application is very useful and attractive available on this phone reminder app called “Do It Later”, it helps keep track of important tasks such as answering message. How to use this application is so easy, you only click to the button of Reply back when the message is received “when you’re in a meeting or not able to answering”. The application will automatically add tasks that to the list of “Do it Later” and then prompts you to avoid forgetting you were replying to received messages. This application also helps you to handling of the news/articles unread messages and missed calls.

Similar interface of the HTC Sense UI, Asus own applications on Zenfone 5 as calendar, email, call management, messaging is also designed with fancy colors and symbol. However, the user unconvincing, even in the HTC Sense UI, because most users do not need to use color to identify app. This application has largely arranged and designed different forms. This color interface of ZenFone not really necessary, but is considered beautiful for new users.

ZenFone 5  uses Asus Open Cloud technology helps integrate all the services your cloud storage together in a single application (like Google Drive, Box, Drop Box or Asus’ Web-storage own)

Camera of Asus ZenFone 5:

Using technology for Camera called PixelMaster,  Asus ZenFone 5 has 8-megapixel rear camera and aperture up to f/2.0 helps the pictures become extremely sharp and vivid with superior quality. Other functions such as panorama, increased depth, the inclination of the image or HDR modes are in Zenphone 5.  In low-light shooting mode is considered as the most innovative smartphone. With the ability to adjust and enhance pixel contrast colors, it allows users to take photos in dim light or dark conditions but still beautiful image quality. When using this feature, the machine will produce images with the best quality if it is fixed on a tripod or held steady until the finished capturing. Flash at rear for clicking night scene very clear.

Another drawback is the slow shutter speed of Camera. Each photo on Zenfone 5 takes more than 1 Sec/image with automatic mode and more with the preparations for night or low light. This can not to lead captures moving images.

Performance of Asus ZenFone 5:

The 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 processor can reach speeds, but still not impressive, the experience of other mobile devices using quad-core MediaTek MT6589, as the Xiaomi Redmi.

A further minus point of ZenFone 5 is the ability to run applications become slow sometimes, that make users feel uncomfortable. This situation often occurs when the zoom screen during web surfing, leaving the lag and take time to load. There is not much impressed with this smart phone.

Quadrant benchmark, Zenphone 5 reaching 8.252 lower than the HTC Desire 816 which is reaching 12,708 points. The Zenphone 5 get 106.28 MFLOPS, an index is considered to be relatively low. Valuable benchmark results confirm that this phone is not really perfect as expected.

There not any problems with call on ZenFone 5, but when using external speakers of the phone are not satisfied. Rear speakers quite low, it makes almost impossible to hear any sounds emitted if not put the phone next to the ear.

With non-removable 2110 mAh battery, the phone can be maintained one day with single Sim, if you use dual Sim the battery life is greatly reduced. However, Asus has provided support energy saving software helps prolong battery life more. Super battery saving mode, when triggered, automatically disconnect the internet when not in use to save battery power. This means that applications such as messaging platform will not work properly when this mode is used.

Verdict:

Asus ZenFone 5 is pretty good, however ZenUI interface and the design of the phone, nor really appreciate the quality of this product. When placed next to Redmi, with low price and similar specs like 4.7-inch screen, dual Sim, 8-megapixel camera, the ZenFone 5 is somewhat overshadowed and do not really stand out. Unless Asus can fix slow speed and lag, it can be better.

ZenFone 5 is now available at $190 in several countries in Asia, including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan etc. ZenFone products is also expected to expand sales in the UK, where the current product line is distributed only through a few small online retail sales.
