In addition to the new iPad 2021 tablet, Apple has finally introduced the Apple iPhone 13 2021 series: The Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max models are particularly convincing in the camera area with new features that have even been praised by Hollywood directors in Apple’s promo videos. However, if you want to use this fully, you should leave the base model with 128 GB of storage.
As part of the Apple iPhone event, the company has also presented the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, which want to set themselves apart from the previous models with an improved camera setup, a slightly narrower notch, and the new Apple A15 Bionic.
So now they are officially here: Apple new phones 2021 series consisting of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini as well as the Pro models iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Talking about iPhone 13 features: all four models offer little new in terms of design, apart from the shrunk notch on the front, but with the Apple A15 chipset, the cameras, and battery sizes some innovations will probably be a lot of fun in practice.
Apple recommends the two Pro-new iPhone 13 2021 models especially for ambitious filmmakers and photographers and even lets Hollywood greats like Kathryn Bigelow have their say during the online presentation. “Cinematic Video” and ProRes-Video are the buzzwords and concerning the latter, an update is to be added in the fall that will enable a complete Dolby Vision or ProRes workflow from start to finish on the small smartphone.
However, there is one limitation of the base model to be noted here, as the datasheet of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max openly admits. The variant with 128 GB memory is only able to create 1080p ProRes video with up to 30 fps, only the 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB iPhone 13 Pro variants offer ProRes video in 4K with 30 fps. This unusual restriction is currently being discussed in the comments of a tweet from YouTuber MKBHD aka Marques Brownlee, who first noticed this unusual restriction.
One could assume that this limitation, which also applies to the front camera, has to do with the comparatively small amount of memory for 4K Pro’s video with its high data rates, but the assumption that the speed of the memory module used or less RAM seems more credible to us could be the bottleneck in the basic module. Apple has not yet stated anything in this regard. Anyone who plans to process 4K ProRes video should probably refrain from buying the 128 GB model.
Coming to the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, the first thing you notice is the notch, which is noticeably smaller than its predecessor, giving the 6.1-inch display of the iPhone 13 and the 5.4-inch display of the iPhone 13 Mini more space. At the same time, the new display should also make a big difference in everyday life, as it can now be bright up to 800 nits (1200 nits in peak). On the back, it hardly differs from the iPhone 12 from the outside, but there are a few big changes in the camera setup.
The main sensor now has optical shift image stabilization, which should provide significantly better results, especially for images in dark surroundings. This feature was previously reserved for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. In addition, the low-light sensitivity of the wide-angle sensor has also been significantly improved. Both cameras can now record videos in 4k at up to 60hz. The software for video recording has also been improved, so that, for example, the automatically set focus when filming should have a much more cinematic effect.
In terms of performance, the new A15 Bionic should beat the leading competition by 50 percent in CPU power and 30 percent in graphics performance and be significantly more efficient. The Neural Engine also has more power with 16 cores. In terms of storage, this time it starts at 128 GB instead of 64 GB.
Furthermore, the battery life of the iPhone 13 should be significantly improved. This should not only be achieved with the new, more efficient Apple A15 but also with the iPhone automatically switching from 5G to the slower LTE network when the high speeds of the 5G network are not required.
