Zeiss has officially announced its most high-quality optical lens, the Otus 1.4/100 lens for Canon / Nikon Full Frame DSLRs. With a 100mm telephoto focal length and a f/1.4 wide aperture, it allows it to be used in all shooting situations such as portraits, studios, products, street shooting or landscapes … with high resolution, best granularity and high mass buoyancy in all cases even when opening the maximum aperture due to lens quality and focal effect.
Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens with ZF.2 Mount for Nikon Full Frame DSLR and ZE for Canon Full Frame DSLR has started to be sold globally for $4,500 without tax. Besides Zeiss’s three available Otus lenses with 28mm, 55mm and 85mm f/1.4 focal lengths, this Otus 1.4/100 lens will be the newest member of the family with a telephoto focal length further highest detail and there’s bokeh with the exclusive “3D pop effect” effect of Zeiss.
In terms of design, this Otus 100mm f/1.4 is designed with a soft and luxurious type of the Otus line, not so pitiful even though its size will be the largest in the focal length. The lens cover is made of metal with modern blue-black color. The characters on the lens are engraved and highlighted in gold. The body of the lens has a rubber focus ring and a focusing ruler that is submerged in the inner ring. Lens size is quite large with an 86mm filter diameter. With the Nikon ZF.2 version, there will be an additional ring on the bottom of the lens.
The lens has a complex optical structure with 14 elements in 11 groups. The design includes aspheric lenses and special glass materials to keep chromatic aberrations and distortion to a minimum. Even when shooting against the light, the T* anti-reflective coating developed by ZEISS allows for extremely high contrast and minimizes stray light. It is perfectly comparable to the quality of Medium Format series on the market.
