The latest Yamaha sound bar dispenses with the extras that are now common, such as virtual surround sound or support for Dolby Atmos, but instead offers solid sound at an attractive price. On request, the Yamaha sound bar is available in an eye-catching red color design.
The Yamaha SR-C30A is a 60-centimeter wide and 6.4-centimeter high soundbar that combines two 45-millimeter drivers with two 20-watt amplifiers. In addition, Yamaha supplies a wireless subwoofer that offers a 130-millimeter woofer and an output power of 50 watts. The compact dimensions of the subwoofer should make it possible to pack it on a shelf or turn it sideways into the TV console if necessary.
Yamaha does without virtual surround sound, the “Yamaha Original 3D Sound Field Technology” is only intended to improve the three-dimensionality of the sound instead of simulating all-round speakers. The Yamaha soundbar supports Dolby Digital, but not Dolby Atmos. Speech amplification should ensure that dialogues can be easily understood even at low volumes. The sound can be adjusted via the four presets Standard, Stereo, Game, and 3D Movie.
Televisions and other devices can be connected via a 3.5 mm mini jack or HDMI ARC. The Yamaha SR-C30A does not have a WLAN module, so Apple AirPlay is not an option either, instead, there is Bluetooth. Not only can music be transmitted wirelessly to the soundbar, but it can also be controlled via the included remote control or Yamaha’s Sound Bar Remote app.

Back in May this year, Denon introduced the DHT-S217 budget soundbar, which still supports Dolby Atmos. You have to do without an external subwoofer, but there are integrated bass speakers. The Atmos soundbar is priced at $249 on Amazon.
