The Sony Xperia 10 IV 2022 presents itself as a compact mid-range smartphone with a 5,000 mAh battery, robust Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and a versatile triple camera with optical image stabilization. Even a headphone jack is part of the equipment.
In addition to the mighty Xperia 1 IV (approx. on £1,299 / $1,599 Amazon), Sony also introduced the brand new Xperia 10 IV. The mid-range Sony Xperia phone looks almost confusingly similar to the Xperia 10 III (approx. £360 on Amazon) at first glance, but there are a few exciting upgrades in terms of equipment.
The device sticks with a 21:9 format OLED display with a diagonal of 6.0 inches, but according to Sony the panel is 15 percent brighter than the previous model – a welcome upgrade after the Xperia 10 III in our test only could achieve a screen brightness of around 540 nits. The cover made of robust Corning Gorilla Glass Victus is also new. The housing is IP68 certified, making it waterproof and dustproof.
The smartphone is even more compact and lighter than its predecessor – the frame has been reduced in height and width by one millimeter so that the Xperia 10 IV is just 67 millimeters wide and weighs 161 grams. For comparison: The Apple iPhone 13 (approx. £729 / $829 on Amazon) is 71.5 millimeters wide and weighs 174 grams. Despite the lower weight, Sony was able to increase the battery by 11 percent to 5,000 mAh.
The processor has been upgraded to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G. The triple camera remains with lenses with focal lengths of 16 mm, 27 mm, and 54 mm equivalent to 35 mm, the optical image stabilization is new. The manufacturer emphasizes that the night mode achieves better results with the new model since the software now uses RAW data as the basis for processing.
The Xperia 10 IV supports many of the proprietary audio features you’ve come to expect from Sony, including 360 Reality Audio, DSEE Ultimate, and the LDAC codec, which can transmit audio over Bluetooth at data rates up to 990 kbps for as long as the headphones also support the standard. Alternatively, wired headphones can be connected via the 3.5 mm AUX port. The smartphone comes with Android 12, and neither a charger nor a charging cable is included in the scope of delivery.
