At its Media event in China, Xiaomi smartphone manufacturer looked to catch up with the latest trend in the smartphone industry by showcasing two new 18:9 FullView display smartphones – Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Xiaomi’s FullView smartphones have a higher screen-to-body ratio compared to the company’s other Redmi series devices.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Price and Specifications
Xiaomi Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720 pixels) 18:9 FullView display with 2.5D curved glass layer on top of it. It is powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core processor that fueled by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 14nm chipset clubbed with Adreno 506 GPU. It packs a 2GB RAM with 16GB storage, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage which can be expanded via microSD card up to 128GB.
The Redmi 5 flaunts a 12-megapixel primary autofocus camera with 1.25μm pixel size and LED flash. It has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera paired with front LED flash for better low light photography. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 also comes equipped with a rear fingerprint sensor to unlock the device along with the Infrared sensor.
The handset runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat -based on MIUI 9 out of the box. It packs a 3300mAh battery and supports dual SIM slot with dual standby, For connectivity includes 4G VoLTE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ ac, GPS, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, micro USB 2.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack options.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 price in China starts from CNY 799 – approximately $120 for 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, and a variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for CNY 899 – approximately $135.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a larger 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160 x 1080 pixels) 18:9 FullView display with 2.5D curved glass protection. It is powered by a 2.0GHz Octa-Core processor that backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 14nm chipset paired with Adreno 506 GPU. It packs a 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage which can be expanded via microSD card up to 128GB.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus also bears the same camera features as Redmi 5 as well as the company is also touting the inclusion of its Beautify 3.0 app, for improved portraits on both devices. There is also rear fingerprint sensor and Infrared sensor.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus price in China starts from CNY 999 – approximately $150 for 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and a variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for CNY 1299 – approximately $195.
Both Xiaomi smartphones will go on sale in China starting from December 12th, 2017 and come in Black, Light Blue, Gold and Rose Gold color options.
