Western Digital launches My Book Duo external hard drives with up to 44TB

Western Digital now offers My Book hard disk models with data storage capacities of up to 44 TB. The WD 44TB My Book Duo remains compact, but its speed lags behind its current storage solutions due to the technology used.

The manufacturer, Western Digital, is expanding its range of external hard drives. They are now offering the WD new My Book Duo hard drive with a capacity of up to 44 TB. The version with such a high storage capacity consists of two individual magnetic hard drives, which operate in RAID 0 mode. Users can also operate the two individual hard disks in RAID 1 mode. In this case, the failure of one disk can be coped with without data loss. Additionally, the JBOD mode is also available, allowing the two hard drives to be addressed individually. The maximum storage capacity of the My Book hard drive, which consists of a magnetic hard drive, is 22 terabytes.

The My Book Duo supports AES hardware encryption with a key length of 256 bits. The connection to a PC or other device is via USB with a data transfer rate of up to 5 GBit/s. It is not the USB connection that limits the data transfer rate, but the use of magnetic hard drives. The My Book Duo is also equipped with multiple ports, including a USB Type-C port. A USB type C to type C cable is already included. The My Book with a magnetic hard drive measures 139.3 x 49 x 170.6 millimeters, and the My Book Duo is 160 x 100 x 180 millimeters.

Seagate recently introduced its 2TB external hard drive for Star Wars fans. The housing is optionally available with an imprint of Han Solo, Darth Vader, or Luke Skywalker. The RGB lighting adapts to the character by default and costs $109.99 / £101.35.
