Cosina has introduced another lens — Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm F2 for Leica M cameras. This is a compact apochromatic portrait prime for rangefinder cameras. The manufacturer claims the optics provide excellent optical characteristics and “zero” chromatic aberrations. The lens weighs 340 grams and costs about $780 (80 thousand rubles at the current exchange rate).

Along with the previously released APO-Skopar 90mm F2.8 VM lens, the new lens is the “longest” Cosina lens with a VM mount and the fourth prime in the VM “Ultron” series. The series already includes:
- Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 28mm F2 Aspherical
- Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical
- Voigtlander Ultron 75mm F/1.9
The new Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm f2 lens is the first Ultron lens to incorporate an apochromatic design. This means it nearly eliminates axial chromatic aberration. As Cosina puts it, the apochromatic design “makes axial RGB chromatic aberration as close to zero as possible.”
The new lens uses anomalous partial dispersion glass in its optical design for six of its eight elements, arranged in seven groups.
Cosina engineers tried to “pack” this entire array into a compact body. The Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm F2 lens is 63.3 mm long, has a maximum diameter of 61.9 millimeters, and accepts filters with a diameter of 52 mm. It weighs only 340 grams.
The new optics also feature a 12-blade rounded diaphragm. Focusing is also manually controlled, like rangefinder lenses.

The lens features an all-metal helicoid focusing unit that promises smooth, precise autofocus with “ appropriate torque .” Depending on the camera, it is coupled with a rangefinder and has a focusing range of 0.9 meters to infinity.
Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm F2 VM Price and Release Date
The Cosina Voigtlander APO-Ultron 90mm F2 is available for pre-order on B&H Photo store for $899 and will be released on February 10, 2025. It comes in black and silver and has a color-matched lens hood.
Sirui introduced the Aurora 85mm F1.4 AF lens for full-frame cameras last year. It offers advanced autofocus, weighs just 540 grams, has a 15-blade aperture, and ensures stunning bokeh, making it ideal for telephoto portraits in photos and videos.
