Cosina has recently introduced the new Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 50mm F2 Aspherical VM lens for Leica M mount, which is now available to buy online. This Voigtländer lens belongs to the group of classic 35mm standard focal lengths and with a speed of 1: 2.0 can be used universally in poor light conditions. It has a Leica VM connection and can also be used for other cameras with adapters.
The APO-LANTHAR 50mm F2 Aspherical VM is optimized for Leica M cameras, but it can also be used on Fuji X-mount cameras and Nikon Z-mount models. When used in combination with a corresponding adapter (see Megadap MTZ11), even the camera’s AF function can be used.
Compared to the already available Sony E-Mount version for mirrorless cameras, the VM version could be designed significantly shorter and over 20 percent lighter, which is not least due to the different flange focal length.
The optical construction consists of 10 elements in 8 groups, two of which are aspherical on both sides, two with abnormal partial dispersion, and floating elements for optimized focusing. When designing the 12 diaphragm blades, care was taken to ensure that a circular opening was not only formed at F2.0 and F2.8 but also at F5.6, which should also enable a circular bokeh of a point light source with these apertures.
