Viltrox now offers one of the most compact lenses for Fujifilm X cameras, which is just 1.5 centimeters thick and weighs 60 grams. The Viltrox 28mm f4.5 Fuji X lens still supports autofocus, and its integrated protective cap eliminates the need to carry it separately.
The manufacturer launched the Viltrox 28mm f4.5 lens last year for Sony FE cameras and is now offering the extremely compact lens for Fujifilm X cameras. Viltrox has not changed anything in terms of the optics – the lens continues to cover the full image circle for a full-frame sensor, which means that the lens, in conjunction with the smaller APS-C sensor of Fujifilm X cameras, should achieve better image quality, especially at the edges of the image.
The lens stands out due to its size—at 1.5 centimeters thin and 60 grams, it allows some Fujifilm cameras to fit easily into a jacket pocket. You can retract the front lens cover using a slider, so you don’t need a separate lens cap. The aperture remains fixed at f/4.5 and does not adjust. The lens supports autofocus, and the small focus ring allows manual focus adjustment.
The lens has a USB-C port, which you can use to install firmware updates, and this is unusual. Viltrox uses six lenses in six groups, including two ED and two aspherical lenses. The lens is supposed to produce sharp images all the way to the corners, but it produces relatively low contrast and saturation.

The Viltrox AF 28mm f4.5 XF lens is now available for pre-order on B&HPhoto for $99. It is also available for $94.05 on Amazon.com and £90 on Amazon.co.uk.
Last year, TTArtisan Tech launched the AF 35mm f/1.8 II autofocus lens for Fuji X cameras, offering a lighter, more compact, and more affordable design. The lens now features 10 elements in 8 groups, including special components such as two extra-low dispersion elements and two high-refractive-index elements. The price is $125 / £129.
