Venus Optics brings Light Giant: Laowa Argus 33mm F0.95 CF APO Lens

Venus Optics has introduced its first Argus lens, the Laowa Argus 33mm F0.95 CF APO prime lens for Sony, Fujifilm, Canon, and Nikon mirrorless cameras. This lens is suitable for cameras with an APS-C format sensor.

The new lens is relatively small and lightweight. Its length is 8.2 centimeters and its weight is 450 grams. The Laowa Argus 33mm F0.95 lens has a 62mm front filter thread, 300-degree rotation of the focusing ring and consists of 14 elements in nine groups (including one extra-low dispersion element, one aspherical element, and three high-refractive-index glass elements).

The optical design of the lens can suppress both lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberrations. Venus Optics claims that the maximum aperture of f0.95 provides an extremely shallow depth of field, which provides great versatility for separating objects from the background and very good low light performance.

A nine-blade diaphragm delivers smooth, round bokeh without sharp edges. The lens also features a stepless aperture ring for use in video recording. The Laowa Argus 33mm f0.95 also has the closest focusing distance of 35cm. The lens only supports manual focus. In this case, all elements are located inside – when focusing, the lens retains its size.
