JBL now offers new over-ear headphones with active noise cancellation and dedicated mics. These come with a Smart TX transmitter, making them exceptionally versatile. The company advertises these JBL over-ear noise cancelling headphones as extremely comfortable, but they’re not exactly cheap.

The Smart Tx can connect various audio sources, such as a notebook via USB Type-C and in-flight entertainment systems in airplanes—a 3.5mm jack is available for this purpose. The Smart Tx hi-res audio transmitter also functions as an Auracast transmitter upon request, sending audio content wirelessly to other compatible devices. The system integrates a touchscreen, allowing for easy configuration and control.
You can also use the JBL over-ear noise cancelling model directly with a USB Type-C or 3.5mm cable connection. It supports LDAC wirelessly, promising lossless or at least low-loss audio transmission. Eight microphones enhance active ambient noise cancellation, while the device also supports Ambient Aware and TalkThru features. Integrated head-tracking technology provides an immersive audio experience.
With ANC disabled, Bluetooth provides up to 70 hours of battery life. When ANC is enabled, you can talk for up to 34 hours. When traveling, the transmitter may be the limiting factor; its battery life is up to 18 hours. More extensive configurations using an app are supported.
