With the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7, Lenovo introduced a particularly slim workstation that nevertheless makes no compromises in terms of performance, thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and Nvidia RTX 3000 Ada. It is the world’s first mobile workstation with LPCAMM2 RAM.
Compared to the ThinkPad P1 Gen 6, the ThinkPad P1 G7 features a completely revised design. The webcam has been relocated to a bulge above the display, the screen edges are now significantly narrower, and the dedicated trackpad buttons for the TrackPoint have been removed. At 17.05 millimeters in height, the notebook is slightly slimmer, and it maintains a relatively low weight of 1.82 kilograms.
The next-gen Lenovo ThinkPad P1 workstation features the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. This processor includes six performance cores with clock speeds up to 5.1 GHz and eight efficiency cores. You can choose between an Nvidia RTX 3000 Ada or a GeForce RTX 4070 laptop GPU. Both GPUs are almost identical, but the RTX 3000 Ada uses ECC RAM for its 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM, while the RTX 4070 offers slightly higher clock frequencies. The cooling system uses liquid metal to dissipate the heat as effectively as possible.
The 16-inch display in a 16:10 format comes in three options. You can choose an IPS panel with 1,920 x 1,200 pixels and 400 nits, an LCD with 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, 165 Hz, and 500 nits, or a 4K OLED touchscreen with 400 nits and Dolby Vision support. The ThinkPad P1 G7 leads as the world’s first mobile workstation featuring LPCAMM2 RAM. This RAM is notably more compact than SO-DIMMs and, unlike soldered RAM, users can replace it themselves. The top model has 64 GB LPDDR5x-7,467 RAM.
