Lenovo is bringing an update to its comparatively inexpensive ThinkPad L series onto the market without any major tam-tam. Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 and ThinkPad L15 Gen 2 are specially designed for corporate customers. The Lenovo L14 and L15 keep the familiar design but will be converted to Intel Tiger Lake.
Gradually, Lenovo has updated its ThinkPad business laptop portfolio for the year 2021. At the CES appeared large updates the high-end Series ThinkPad X1 such as the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 now follows without a big announcement, the rather inexpensive ThinkPad L series.
The Lenovo ThinkPad L series is fully geared towards Lenovo’s large corporate customers and acts as an economy version of the ThinkPad T series. Because Lenovo gave the L series a fundamental design overhaul only last year, the new Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 2 and Lenovo L14 Gen 2 models are based on the 2020 ThinkPads.
Therefore, you are looking in vain for really big changes compared to the Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 1 ( available from Amazon, among others ) and Lenovo ThinkPad L15 Gen 1 – apart of course from the new Intel Tiger Lake platform, represented in this case by CPUs of the UP4 series such as the Intel Core i7-1165G7. The platform update also includes the new Intel Xe GPUs as well as Thunderbolt 4 (for the first time in the affordable ThinkPad L series) and HDMI 2.0.
That Lenovo isn’t making any major changes doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In the end, features such as the two SO-DIMM slots, the microSD card reader, RJ45 Ethernet, and the easily exchangeable keyboard are retained.
