Teenage Engineering introduces new Streetfighter/Megaman Pocket Operator Devices

Streetfighter and Megaman are classic games. Teenage Engineering has released two new pocket calculators from the Pocket Operator series that honor these two games. They do this through a special display that shows parts and figures from the two games in the style of the eighties.

Streetfighter/Megaman Pocket Operator

The Street Fighter Pocket Operator (PO-133) is a version of the PO-33 micro sampler with 40 seconds of sample memory and an integrated microphone for sampling. This special version offers 16 Street Fighter soundtracks and samples from the original Streetfighter arcade game v on Capcom.

The Megaman Pocket Operator (PO-128) is based on the PO-28, a portable synthesizer and sequencer with parameter locks, glide control, and punch-in effects. This version offers 16 Megaman soundtracks based on the original Capcom video game.

The eighties are the year of the games that are processed here, but the optics also remain in this sense. On the other hand, they built in their own synth engine for Megaman.

As details, there are the terms hip-hop and techno and figures as a small pictogram. Nevertheless, the POs are designed as music devices. So they serve more as an ornament. The operation and the idea remain similar for the themed pocket calculators, just not the same. Is it just the “filling” that has been changed in style? No, that’s only the case with Streetfighter. This is structured like a small sample groove box. Previously, these devices included “Rick and Morty” among others. However, Teenage Engineering wouldn’t be Teenage Engineering if the computers were really all exactly the same.

Streetfighter/Megaman Pocket Operator cases

For the own creations eight melodic sample – slots ready to come 8 drum slots. In total, the devices are always 16 part groove boxes that keep 40 memories free for your own samples. These are 15 effects ready to be recorded in real-time. The numbers result from the 16 buttons, which are used for step recording programming but also provide those effects that you can simply “play” with during operation.

In Megaman, the sounds are still Chiptuning -like and there are 128 Pattern Chain, a three-track – Sequencer, and a true 8-bit synth engine instead of the sample playbacks to differ from the other devices. Drums and 15 sounds are also possible here. Technically speaking, the PO-128 is more of a synthesizer than the PO-133 with its samples.
