Tascam launches Mixcast 4 Podcast Recording Studio

With Mixcast 4, Tascam launches its version of a podcast recording studio. With a mixer for four microphones and other signals, pads for music and sound effects, an integrated multitrack podcast recorder, and a USB interface, Mixcast 4 should offer a complete solution for professional podcasting. The right software for editing and finishing the podcast on the computer is also available.

Podcast station and podcast studio models such as the PreSonus Revelator io24, Zoom F2, F2-BT, PodTrak P8, Roland V-160HD, or Mixer Pro-X. It was actually surprising that Tascam – after all the classic name for the podcast recording studio and mobile recorders – did not yet have a tailor-made solution in its range in this area. The new Mixcast 4 is supposed to change that.

With four microphone inputs and four headphone outputs, Mixcast 4 supports a group of four presenters and/or guests. An auto-mix function should automatically adjust the level of the microphones and thus ensure a balanced mix at all times. There is a Bluetooth interface and a 4-pin TRRS connection for connecting guests by telephone. In this case, a mix-minus function should suppress the annoying echoes.

For adding sound effects and music, the Mixcast 4 offers eight multi-colored illuminated pads. Some sounds are already included. Of course, it is also possible to put your own sounds on the pads. Effects such as voice distortion and reverb can also be controlled via the pads.

The 5-inch touch display gives an overview of the levels of the microphones and other sound sources and is intended to provide easy and intuitive access to all functions of the Mixcast 4.

The integrated Tascam recorder records the podcast with up to 14 tracks on an SD card. Those who prefer to record, edit and finish their podcasts on the computer can also use the Mixcast 4 as a USB audio interface with 14 inputs and two outputs. In line with this, Tascam has released the free Podcast Editor software specially tailored to Mixcast 4, which is intended to enable intuitive recording and editing even without extensive DAW knowledge. The Tascam Podcast Editor is available for Windows, macOS, and iOS; an Android app will follow shortly.
