Tascam, a manufacturer of professional audio products, has introduced the CA-XLR2d microphone adapter in cooperation with several camera brands. The adapter is offered in three versions. The XLR2d-C for Canon and the XLR2d-F for Fujifilm cameras, and the all-analog XLR2d-AN for Nikon and other cameras.
Good sound is essential for high-quality video recordings. The external microphones, of which the professional ones usually have XLR mic connectors, ensure this – to match the type of recording. The microphone socket of photo cameras, on the other hand, is always a jack socket due to its size. (Balanced XLR plugs are less susceptible to interference, and more robust than the connection using unbalanced jack plugs.)
As a microphone XLR input adapter, it allows the connection of all kinds of professional microphones, and a high-performance analog / digital converter for mirrorless cameras, the CA-XLR2d can feed a crystal-clear, digitized audio signal directly into cameras from Canon and Fujifilm. Tascam also offers an analog version for Nikon cameras and other camera models that do not have a digital accessory shoe.
The CA-XLR2d is a two-channel microphone adapter and mic preamp that makes it possible to record high-quality professional stereo sound with a mirrorless or other camera using external microphones. The audio signal – digital or analog – is transmitted directly to the camera and recorded together with the video signal, instead of using an external audio recorder for professional microphones and subsequently synchronizing the audio recording with the video, which would increase the time required for post-production.
Tascam CA-XLR2d price and availability
The recommended retail price for the Tascam CA-XLR2d-C (Canon) and CA-XLR2d-F (Fujifilm) is $499. The one for the purely analog CA-XLR2d-AN for Nikon and other cameras is at $449. The microphone adapter is already available to pre-order on the Bhphotovidep.com and Adorama.com websites.
Recently, Tascam has announced the Shotgun Microphone TASCAM TM-200SG with super-cardioid directivity and compact size – a length is 153 mm. The Shotgun mic needs 48V phantom power via the XLR interface, and there is no battery in the case, and priced at $149.
