Tamron AF 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD Zoom lens for Fujifilm X

Tamron is now bringing its 4.1x standard zoom “AF 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD” (model B070) with optical image stabilization, which has been available with a Sony E mount since January 2021. Now also in a variant with Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras.

The new Tamron lens is characterized by the very high image quality, quiet AF, low focus breathing, minimal focus distances, and an optical image stabilizer that is equally effective for photos and videos. With its focal length of 17-70mm, the standard zoom on the APS-C-sized image sensors covers a KB focal length range of 25.5mm to 102mm.

This X-mount version of the 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD was launched for Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless cameras (approx. $699 on Bhphoto) in mid-January 2021. The 4.1x standard zoom has a maximum aperture of F2.8 across the entire focal length range of 17-70mm. Due to the APS-C image sensors, the focal length corresponds to a 35mm focal length of 25.5-105 mm.

The lens comes with a VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism to minimize camera shake and thus ensure the most unshakeable, sharp image possible. VC mechanism uses AI technology in video recording.

This Fujifilm lens is also equipped with the silent RXD-AF motor (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) to keep focusing quietly, which is particularly important when shooting video. The slight change in focal length or angle of view when changing the focusing distance, which is known as focus breathing, but is still annoying in video recordings, is minimal with the 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD. The quiet autofocus (AF) and the lower focus breathing enable optimal video recordings. A minimum object distance (MOD) of 0.19m at a wide-angle provides additional versatility as well as moisture-resistant construction and stain-resistant fluorine coating.

A plus for owners of other Tamron lenses is the 67mm filter size of the zoom, which is available on most Tamron lenses for mirrorless cameras. It is a useful and versatile lens that offers attractive design possibilities with its consistently high maximum aperture of 1:2.8, and also delivers high image quality for photos and video recordings.
