Tamron 70-180 mm F/2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E: Price, Specs, Availability

After the availability of the 20mm F/2.8 Di III OSD M 1:2 lens for Sony E-mount, now the Tamron has developed a new full-frame 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD telephoto lens for the Sony E-mount. This new Tamron 70-180 compact lens, despite a significant range of focal lengths, has a length of 149 mm and 81 mm in diameter, and weighing 810 grams.

The Tamron 70-180 lens consists of 19 elements in 14 groups, including one aspherical element, one hybrid aspherical lens, one eXtra low dispersion (XLD) element, five low dispersion (LD) elements, and fluorine-containing lens coatings. The lens has moisture protection, but Tamron does not specify what it can withstand. The aperture diaphragm features a nine-blade design.

Autofocus is driven by the linear focus motor Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive (VXD) from TAMRON. At 70 mm, the minimum focusing distance is only 27 cm for manual focusing. Like other Tamron lenses, the 70–180mm F2.8 has a 68mm front filter thread. Additionally, a floating system is used to achieve excellent optical performance at all shooting distances.

In addition, the Tamron 70-180 mm F/2.8 is fully compatible with various camera-specific features including Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF. It provides users with complete portrait-to-telephoto lens range coverage.
