The Tamron 28-300mm f4-7.1 Di III VC VXD (A074) universal telephoto zoom lens for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras is now available for pre-order. Sony super telephoto lens is compact, lightweight, and provides 10.7x zoom. It features the proprietary autofocus system with a VXD linear motor) and VC optical image stabilization technology.
The Tamron 28-300 Sony E mount lens has an optical design of 20 elements in 13 groups, including three aspherical elements. Additionally, it features one eXtra Low Dispersion (XLD) and Low Dispersion (LD) element to control aberrations, including chromatic ones. Furthermore, Tamron’s Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2 (BBAR-G2) coating reduces halos and flare, ensuring clearer images even in backlighting conditions.
At the same time, the manufacturer managed to achieve low weight (610 g) and compactness (length – 126 mm). The diameter of the filter thread is 67 mm, like most Tamron lenses.
The Sony Tamron 28-300mm f/4-7.1 lens has impressive macro capabilities. For instance, at 28mm, it allows you to focus at a distance of 0.19 meters, providing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.8. Additionally, at 300mm, the magnification ratio reaches up to 1:3.8.
The focal length range makes this lens ideal for landscapes, travel, portraits, sports, and even wildlife photography. Tamron expects the new lens to appeal to users who prefer a compact, lightweight solution for general-purpose photography. It’s also suitable for video shooting, as the Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive autofocus system operates smoothly and quietly.
The lens has a zoom lock switch, a Focus Set button, and a USB Type-C port. Additionally, it works with the Tamron Lens Utility Function app.
Price and release date
The price for the new Tamron telephoto lens has been announced. Furthermore, it is available for pre-order on Bhphotovideo.com and Adorama.com for $899. Sales, meanwhile, will begin at the end of August.
Let’s recall that ten years ago, Tamron released a slightly “lighter” 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD for Canon, Nikon, and Sony SLR cameras. Similarly, in the spring, Nikon released its super-telezoom NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR for $1,300. Now, Sony camera owners have a comparable zoom option.
