Tamron 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E mount

The new 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III VXD is Tamron’s first ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a focal length of 150 mm to 500 mm for a mirrorless system with full-frame sensors. Its most striking feature is the compact design. Even with a focal length setting of 500 mm, you can take pictures with your free hand without any problems. The integrated VC image stabilizer and the fast VXD autofocus enable sharp images without a tripod even with ultra-long focal lengths. At 150 mm, the close-up distance is only 0.6 m, so that the lens can also be used for expressive close-ups.

With a length of 209.6 mm and a diameter of 93 mm, the 150-500mm f5-6.7 is an unusually compact 500 mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. When fully extended, it measures just 238 mm in length and thus remains remarkably handy even with the longest focal length. To switch between 150 mm and 500 mm, the zoom ring only needs to rotate 75 degrees – less than a quarter turn. The desired focal length can be achieved with a small movement. Since the image section can be adjusted very quickly, it is very intuitive to work.

The optical structure comprises 25 elements in 16 groups. Several special glasses, including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and five LD (Low Dispersion) elements as well as two hybrid aspherical lenses, effectively correct optical image errors such as longitudinal color errors or axial chromatic aberrations.

The 150-500mm f5-6.7 features the critically acclaimed VXD autofocus linear motor found in the 70-180mm F2.8 Di III VXD (model A056). VXD technology enables very fast and precise focusing for photo and video recordings, regardless of the selected focal length or the distance to the subject. In particular, the AF tracking of fast-moving subjects, such as athletes, birds, or airplanes, is significantly improved by the VXD autofocus. The camera can always focus exactly on the main subject, even in very dynamic situations. The linear motor of the VXD autofocus works very smoothly and almost silently. In contrast to conventional AF systems, there are practically no operating noises or vibrations. This makes the lens ideal for photo and video recordings in any environment.
