In addition to the 150-500mm super telephoto zoom for mirrorless full-frame 35mm cameras of the Alpha series from Sony, Tamron has also introduced a compact, lightweight Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 Di III-A RXD ultra wide angle zoom for Sony mirrorless cameras in APS-C format.
The 11-20mm f2.8 Di III-A RXD (model B060) corresponds to a 35mm focal length of 16.5-30mm and offers a consistently high light intensity of 1: 2.8. The new Sony E mount lens is the world’s first ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for mirrorless APS-C cameras with an E-mount from Sony, which has an aperture of f/2.8.
Despite its consistently high light intensity, the lens is very compact (L: 86.2 mm) and feels balanced on a compact mirrorless APS-C camera housing. In the 11 mm ultra-wide-angle range, the lens shows an astonishing performance in the close-up range and offers a minimum shooting distance of just 0.15 m as well as a maximum reproduction ratio of 1: 4. This feature invites wide-angle close-ups to take advantage of the creative effects of naturally occurring distortion.
The new zoom is protected by a moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating. Its filter size of 67 mm is identical to that of the bright standard zoom 17-70mm f2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (model B070) for mirrorless cameras with E-mount from Sony and with almost all lenses from the series of mirrorless full-frame lenses from Tamron, which can also be used on APS-C cameras. The new lens is compatible with many of the features that Sony builds into their cameras. These include Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF.
Price and availability
The pre-orders for the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 Di III-A RXD have already been started on the Bhphotovideo.com website. The price of the zoom lens is $829 and will be available from June 24th, 2021.
