The Galaxy Tab Active 5 by Samsung is a compact and sturdy tablet that features an 8-inch, 120 Hz display. It also supports the use of a Samsung S Pen and comes with a waterproof and fall-protected housing.
Positioned as a smaller and more affordable alternative to the Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro (approx. $586 / £590 on Amazon), the Galaxy Tab Active 5 utilizes an 8-inch LCD screen with a brightness of at least 540 nits and a frame rate of 120 Hz.
The tablet offers convenient features for users wearing gloves, including the ability to operate the screen with an S Pen and dedicated navigation buttons below the display. Additionally, there is a programmable action button on the right side. When the screen is wet, users can still interact with the touchscreen using the “Wet Touch” capability. Although the housing is slightly bulky, it is IP68 certified, ensuring waterproofness and protection against dust, dirt, vibrations, extreme heights, and falls.
Underneath the hood, the tablet runs on the Samsung Exynos 1380, a 5 nm ARM chip from 2023. This chip combines four high-performance ARM Cortex-A78 cores, running at clock frequencies of up to 2.4 GHz, with four efficiency-focused Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz. The tablet also offers 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash memory, expandable up to 1 TB using a microSD memory card.
Users can power up the tablet through USB-C or pogo pins to simplify charging. The home button seamlessly integrates the fingerprint sensor. Samsung commits to providing four major Android updates and five years of security patches.
