Synology HAS5300 SAS HDD belongs to Corporate Segment

Synology has announced the HAS5300 series of PC PC hard drive models. These 3.5-inch drives with 12 Gb/s SAS HDD are designed to meet the growing demand for high-performance, high-capacity, fault-tolerant storage systems.

The HDD drive series includes models HAS5300-8T, HAS5300-12T, and HAS5300-16T in 8, 12, and 16 TB sizes. They complement the Synology HAT5300 line that was introduced in January, which includes 8, 12, and 16 TB SATA hard drives.

The spindle speed for all three HAS5300 models is 7200 rpm. The buffer capacity is 256 MiB for the 8 TB and 12 TB models, and 512 MiB for the 16 TB model. The maximum sustained data rates are 230, 242, and 262 MiB/s. They also have been tested to ensure maximum reliability on Synology systems, even while handling the most extreme workloads.

The new hard drive for PC has a declared workload of up to 550 TB of transferred data per year and an MTBF of 2.5 million hours. The HAS5300 drives run on firmware optimized for critical workloads that matter. They allow Synology systems to repair degraded RAID arrays up to 27% faster than similar-class and capacity drives.

Recently, Synology has also announced two 800GB M.2 22110 and M.2 2280 SSD models to its range of enterprise-class M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD for data storage caching. An 800GB drives are optimized for read-dominated workloads. During the five-year warranty period, they withstand 0.68 rewrites per day. Performance on reading operations reaches 375,000 IOPS, and on write operations – 70,000 IOPS.
