Sony has launched the firmware 5.381 update, which includes Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the following features:
- Picture-in-Picture mode
- HDR Hybrid Log-Range (HLG) content for USB, DLNA, and satellite TV (except for W85C, W80C, W75C, X830C, X80C and S80C)
- Google Cast 4K content using built-in Chromecast technology (on Ultra HD TVs only)
- Voice search functionality via a web browser
The firmware will be distributed gradually during the spring.
Original Story
Sony will update the 2015 and 2016 TV lineup to Android 7.0 Nougat operating system during 2018. In fact, the firmware release is taking longer than expected. The official declaration is as follows:
“Our engineers are currently working on the Android 7.0 Nougat OS update for the remaining models. To ensure that the update is rolled-out smoothly across Europe, a lot of quality assurance (QA) testing is necessary. We’ll update you of any developments in the future via our support site or Support by Sony app.”
For for the owners of Android TV 2017 and for few 2016 line TVs, the wait is over now, for all the others you will have to wait until at least the spring of 2018. Following the Sony Android TV series that will be updated soon:
