Sony WH-1000XM6 active noise cancellation headphones with dedicated mics

Sony’s next-generation flagship headphones, the WH-1000XM6, are here. Three years after the launch of the WH-1000XM5, they promise extensive upgrades, from a more comfortable, more robust design to better active noise cancellation with a dedicated mic and new, smart features.

At first glance, the brand-new Sony WH-1000XM6 looks quite similar to its direct predecessor, but Sony has improved the design in many areas. The company has widened the headband and covered it with synthetic leather to reduce pressure points, softened the ear cushions to enhance comfort, and made the metal hinges more robust, allowing users to fold the ear cups away for easier transport.

Technically, the upgrade focuses on improved noise cancellation, for which Sony combines the seven-times faster HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 with twelve microphones. Experts say the noise cancellation now adapts more precisely than ever to ambient noise and even air pressure. The more intelligent Transparency Mode amplifies conversations or announcements on the platform while still filtering out noise.

A new feature allows the headphones to automatically select music from their preferred streaming service, tailored to the user’s taste and current activity. Chosen artists tuned the Carbon drivers to deliver particularly natural, detailed sound. A lightweight carbon fiber dome driver, built for this setup, keeps vocals clear and instruments clean—nothing feels muddy or overdone.

Sony DSEE Extreme improves the quality of highly compressed music. LDAC also lets you stream high-resolution music wirelessly to the Sony WH-1000XM6. Bluetooth LE Audio, Auracast, and Multipoint support bring modern Bluetooth features. The battery delivers 30 hours of music playback and charges via USB-C.
