The DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 is now available in two new colors, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Both PS 5 controller variants will be available for sale from next month. The two-tone design of the Sony PlayStation 5 and its controller was quite controversial after revealed.
A rumor from a few days ago told us that Sony is planning to refresh the Dual Sense controllers with a new look. This rumor has proven to be right since Sony has officially unveiled two new colors for its controllers: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Sony says both variants of DualSense should be available for sale from next month. Availability will be subject to change based on region, so your mileage may vary.
The Midnight Black variant stays true to Sony’s proven aesthetic seen on the DualSense’s predecessors. In contrast, the Cosmic Red variant will be a welcome change for those who are fed up with black or white controllers. Much like the original DualSense launched with the PS5, both variants retain the two-tone design, although it is less noticeable on the Midnight Black version.
The PS 5 controller version in midnight black uses two different shades of black, the buttons are labeled in light gray, apart from the LED bar, the PS controller is monochrome. The controller offers integrated microphones and speakers, a headphone jack, a battery that is charged via USB-C, and Bluetooth so that it can also be used with smartphones, PCs, and Macs.
One can only hope that Sony fixed the drift issues that plagued some DualSense units as it was a hardware issue. However, Sony finds itself in a difficult situation here. A new design would imply that something is wrong with the original model, which could result in legal issues. On the other hand, if the issue is not resolved, Sony will come under fire from PS5 owners, which it cannot afford given the looming threat from Microsoft.
