Sony HT-S400 soundbar offers an OLED display and surround sound

Sony has unveiled a new mid-range soundbar that comes with a wireless subwoofer for the deepest possible bass. With support for surround sound, a total output power of 330 watts, Bluetooth, and an OLED display, the Sony HT-S400 has a lot to offer.

Sony HT-S400 Soundbar with subwoofer

With the HT-S400, Sony has introduced a new soundbar with a subwoofer that offers true 2.1 configurations. With support for Dolby Digital and Sony’s virtual surround sound technology S-Force PRO Front Surround, the manufacturer promises a particularly spatial sound. Upward-firing speakers and support for Dolby Atmos are absent. For the record, it is not compatible with Dolby Atmos.

Sony hardly provides any details on the driver configuration or the frequency range that the soundbar can reproduce. The company only specifies the total output power of 330 watts, and the subwoofer has a single speaker unit with a diameter of 160 millimeters. The soundbar can be controlled with a Sony Bravia TV remote control, and some Smart TVs even allow you to control the soundbar settings directly from the big screen.

Sony advertises the possibility of connecting the soundbar to a TV wirelessly, but since the soundbar only supports the SBC codec via Bluetooth, a wired connection via HDMI ARC or Toslink is recommended for the best possible audio quality and to reduce latency. A small OLED display in conjunction with remote control makes it possible to adjust settings independently of the connected TV.

The Sony HT-S400 soundbar with subwoofer is finally available to pre-order on the Amazon.com and Bhphotovideo.com websites for a recommended retail price of $299.99.
